Last week, I had a follow-up appointment with my surgeon. Was great to share good news with him about full healing of my surgical wound. (I previously posted on here about issue with part of the wound not healing well and had Negative Pressure Wound Therapy pump for a couple of weeks which made a big difference.)
I can now walk further distances. (Went to Disney 2 days in a row and managed very well. First day took my cane, but second went without it.) He also told me I can use a treadmill now. (Couldn't until wound was fully healed.)
I wanted to know about need for antibiotics prior to dentist visits. There are different opinions about the need for them. He told me that many surgeons recommend using the pills for 2 years. He wants me to use them for life. I understand the proactive approach to avoid infection. (When I had the wound issue, he had me take antibiotics periodically to avoid infection.) I have no problem taking the pills prior to dental appointment. Better to be safe. I don't take meds to often anyway.
As for what he doesn't want me to do... not much. For awhile, no jerky movements. (I avoided those kinds of rides at Disney.) Walking as much as I am comfortable with. I'm working on improving my gait and pace without any walking aid.
The thigh numbness still exists so he told me to use either ice or heat, whichever feels better. I know that will continue to take time to improve.
Best of all, next appointment in ONE YEAR.
This site has helped me a lot since my January 8 surgery. Many people share their personal experiences and are supportive to others.
I'm going to continue checking new discussions, reading others as I see notifications, and doing my best to help others.
Airport security on our next trip should be interesting with the new hip.
