I know some of you have mentioned this problem and I’m wondering if anyone has suggestions as this has been going on too long I think.
I’m 19 days post op and the buttcheek on the side I had my THR is really uncomfortable. Feels like I’ve been sitting on it forever. I did not have this problem with my first THR but this time I’ve felt this since day 1.
I can’t lay on my good side for more than about 5 mins. But it sure feels good while I can. So I’m basically on my back or sitting.
Anyone have suggestion on how I could give this buttcheek a rest?
Wow well done Dsilk!! I wish I could even get close to lying on my wound, I’ve tried but the pain is so bad still. Yes I get pain in my bit cheek too, I sit on frozen peas and stand to stretch my lower back whilst rubbing in/massaging Bio freeze. When its there it’s very painful like sciatica but doing this helps a fair bit until it subsides.
I have a problem with pain in the butt I am not sure of but I think I help by getting up a lot even for a moment. I also position a pillow so So that I have my nonop butt taking more of the Sith down. I also put my legs up while down here a while. Anymore I like to probably icing laying down because that seems to hurt my butt more than anything else. I would say these things and others have helped.I still really cannot sleep on the op side. 12 days out.
Hang in there.
My cheek didnt start hurting until i started the gluteal exercises. I was told that the muscle may have been cut into during surgery and that the muscle has to wake up and nerves grow back. Ice and heat work best for me
I had same issues. At 13 weeks it still hurt if I sit in a hard chair. In my early weeks I took our patio furniture cushins and put them in every thing I sat, especially in the car seat. I was told your but muscle has to reattach and then get bigger again through exercises, and you need to rub the scare with rolling out as much as possible to break up scare tissue. I also ordered to really big flat ice packs one covers the butt cheek the other wraps around this.
Good luck
I had the anterior approach so no muscles were cut in the back. Also I had forgotten when I get up in the morning the buttcheek isn’t bothering me.
So I’m sure Its because of being up and around now that I think of it. So i think it’s the joint in that area possibly?
Sarah I have some BioFreeze but was not sure if I could use it so early.
Do any of you take Ibruprofen for discomfort? I know before surgery we shouldn’t.
And now I’m on a blood thinner.
I’m only able to lay on my other side not my new hip for 5 mins.
Thank you for ur suggestions. Will try laying slightly off that side.
May you all recover nicely.
Hi, I used biofreeze today as I also have spinal stenosis/spine osteoarthritis with paint that radiates into the buttock a lot.? It’s only herbal isn’t it and doesn’t go near the wound??
Regarding Iboprufen it says in my Clexane injection leaflet not to use it. I don’t know why but I haven’t taken it for that reason. I need something for my pain so will ask the district nurse who is coming tomorrow.
Sarah, I just looked at the BioFreeze and it does look like it’s herbal. I didn’t know that. I also have to watch out for herbs that change your hormones as I am a cancer survivor.
As for the Ibruprofen my instructions said not to use prior to op because it thins your blood. I’m going to call my doc in the morning too. Make sure I can use it for the swelling while still on a bl
I also have spinal stenosis and a pelvic tilt. Good gosh!!
I think one of the contra indications for Clexane states to not use Iboprufen whilst using clexane (prob becos both thin the blood). And good job you found out about Biofreeze being herbal!! Yes get in touch with your doctor tomorrow.
