Hi Vikki sorry to hear you have had this horrific experience. I too have had this on quite a few occasions. Pain and spasms are unbearable. I was told severe IBS. But I think has been an infection or something not cooked properly. If it happens to me I take buscopan and pain killers right away . I am taking herbs from a herbalists to try sort out my gut issues. Also amitriptyline to help with the stress my stomach has caused. Please go to doctor and put I stool sample. And take any tests offered. Hope you get sorted. I thought i was the only one to have experienced this. Hope it doesn't happen again. Take care
Having read your story and response I think this is not IBS, I don't have the same symptoms and whilst I realise every one with IBS is different that's not right. See another doctor this sounds like something else. Sorry to go against the reply you got, but it sounds really odd? I hope you get the answers you need.
Hi Vikki, I experience exactly the same as you. Normally it’s either 20 mins or 1 hour after dinner (not every day) but when it hits boy do the spasms hurt and it’s like your body is trying to get rid of something go into a cold sweat at some points feel like I could faint or be sick but once I have been to toilet which is loose I feel instantly relieved and better. No advise why or what it means but I did have a flexible sigmoidoscopy yesterday because of these symptoms and they were happy with what they could see but took biopsy’s whilst I was there. Can really sympathise with your symptoms as it’s awful when it hits you
Unfortunately, when I get bad pain and spasms, the pain doesn’t go away, once I’ve been to the toilet! I’m on the loo in agony, sometimes for hours, in agony.
The worst part is, I don’t often get a break in pain, so I feel like I’m dying!
My partner always suggests an ambulance, when I get these horrendous episodes, but I really don’t think anything could be done.
So I endure it, and let it take its course
The pain is like childbirth but with no gaps in between pains.
Colonoscopy clear, biopsy’s all clear.
Doctor fobs me off, won’t give me any meds for it, so I have to take loperamide, if i have a bad bout and need to go somewhere important etc.
Otherwise, most days stuck on loo
More often just ‘ normal’ diahorrea and pains, which are more bearable.
Just scares me when I get these agonising episodes
Hello Vikki Yes I get this and it was what made me come here in the first place. I have noticed these symptoms are not common, especially the perspiring, but follow my posts back and you will see this is very common for me too. Luckily for me, for work that is, it tends to happen at the weekends, Sundays mostly, but not immune to the week but less frequent. When I was with my former partner it was every weekend and I would often finish with a flourish in the form of sickness but since found I suffer with Mesenteric Panniculitis which may be causing the sickness but the rest is IBS the doc said. When I am ill my temperature goes through the roof and often need a lie down afterwards as exhausted but that might just be me but after spending hours in the loo I feel drained. You are not alone and yes for me starts with spasms and cramp. My illness tends to last about 3 hours on average on and off. Yes I have timed it as nerdy like that.
