Vitamin d and folates

I have been feeling rewally tired for a couple of years now but put it down to age (now 53).

My legs gave way,had blurry vision and am able to sleep 16-18 hrs a day.I also get pins and needles in fingers and toes and brain fog.

After blood tests i am now on 20,000iu 2xweekly and 5mg folic acid daily.I have a head MRI this week.

I have been told it may be 3 months before ifeel any better.

Any advice.Sick of being me right now !

Yes it takes at least three months to build up your vitamin D if you are deficient, quite often longer, do you know what your reading was?

Thank you for that,no i have no idea, hoping folates will improve a little more quickly. I think i am just getting a little concerned with the impending MRI query MS.

The symptoms you describe are typical of autoimmune disorders in general and all of them tend to be associated with low vit D - whether it is cause or effect isn't known. It may not be the low vit D that is causing the symptoms but it is a sensible place to start

The bit about your legs giving way is bound to suggest MS as a possibility and the MRI is the quickest way to have a look for that. Autoimmune disorders are very difficult to pin down exactly but you are obviously about to be well investigated to identify the cause. And while MS isn't a nice diagnosis it is better to know whether that is what is causing it or not - if it isn't and the vit D supplements don't help they will keep looking.

Good luck. Being chronically ill is no fun whatever you have but it is worse to have something and be ignored and told it is all in your mind - at least you aren't.

You are right. My GP is being very good. True to say also i already have one auto immune issue too .

It is the not knowing getting me down. Once i have a definitive diagnosis,i am sure i will cope better. Thank you !

I know the feeling - I had my autoimmune disease for 5 years before I finally identified what it probably was. Blood tests always normal so the GP was "I can't imagine what it might be..." despite the symptoms being pretty textbook!

Just recently I've had a flare - again nothing out of the ordinary they can find - just being a bit dizzy when I exert myself, which is not usually a symptom of PMR. If I don't try to walk up a hill in the morning I'm fine! Just the usual A/I fatigue...

I hope it passes quickly for you !

It just stinks not being in control .

Have you tested b12
