RA set in when my vitamin D got dangerously low. Now I have flare ups when it goes low again. I am not sure of the link here but therre seems to be a clue we are all missing. Has anyone else experienced this?
Hi there optimistic100, there appears to be a definite link alright. Plenty of articles on the internet. I have been taking Vit D for a while now, yet my most recent blood test showed that I was deficient. Drs told me to double the dose!
Yes the arthritis foundation has found this to be true
My vitamin d is low also...supposed to be taking, but just cannot face another pill!
It is vital to take that vitamin D. Low D causes increased pain and opens the doorway to more illnesses. IF my doctor caught that deficiency in me, I doubt I woul d have RA today.
Probably some connection, though I was already on vit D supplements when I got RA
There seems to be some connection to RA if Vit D is low. It definitely sets you up for more pain if D is low. Increase D and lower pain. I am experimenting on myself. Why should the docs have all the fun?????
Sxhad no idea! Thanks. And i will try
That's the spirit!
Like I answered and explained somewhere else to you optimistic 100 there is a link between vit D and RA (see discussion started by river on humira). And there are side effects to take too much vit D, which can cause an increase of calcium in the blood and lead, in the worst hypotheis, to damage to your kidneys. So always be very careful with self-medication , even with things apparently as innocuous as vitamins. Inform yourself as much as possible and discuss it with your doctor
Thanks, I know. I don't think they test vitamin D often enough.
