Vitamin D

Went to see my specialist yesterday and told him GP had given me vitamin D supplement as blood test came back low,and he thought it was so good for the down side that comes with IBS.So have now been  on it 6 days and today really seem brighter admitted also gone onto gluten free as from only yesterday so let's see, will keep you posted, hope we are all getting through as best as possible.

If it were me I would try the vitamin d and the non gluten diet separately so that I find out which of them is working.

Yes well I don't think that the vitamin D would cause the tummy swelling,so that's whyI am doing the wheat diet although not celiac, but we will see.Thanks.

All ibs treatment is highly individual and is a matter of what works for you but from experience a good starting point is 1)follow the Fodmap Diet. ( see Google)

2)cut out gluten as much as possible

3) Go on a Cognitive Behaviour Therapy course. Free on the NHS

Nothing is a complete "cure" and there will be flare ups,but generally speaking these three basics allow you to live a normal life. One other thing you might try is Symprove (look it up on the net). Expensive  but well worth a try. It's good

Hi David,

Thankyou, I have not tried the fodmap diet ,but have been better today with no gluten but early days we will see.Have had CBT but was no good for me I know some get on with it but not me.

I cannot see how vitamin d or the lac\k of it would cause ssweling either.

CBT is only of use to you if your emotional and mental health has something to do with it, this is not always the case. I have taught it to clients of mine - I am a therapist.

Some people get a lot from it others get no help at all from it, especially the bright ones who are mentally alert and can work things out with common sense.

Hi Joan, interesting to hear about the vitamin D. I take plenty daily. I found when I stopped gluten, I had almost immediate results as I found I had significant symptoms. I had bloating but mostly intense abdominal pain almost every day by 2:00-3:00 in the afternoon. Once I stopped eating gluten (it was only my guess 10 years ago, and it started with oats which are just as difficult for me) I felt SO much better in 24 hours. If I happened to eat gluten after I finally quit (and was told I was not celiac because I was always tested when I was eating gluten free), I would get those same pains that could last right in the center of my abdomen for up to 5 days. Won't ever touch it again.

Hope you are able to resolve your issue as easily.

Thanks barb

At the moment so far an improvement so hopefully,

Hope you are well today.

Hi Joan, improvements are great! I am fine! Getting ready for 2 days off! :-)
