I had a technis IOL multifocal in the left eye about 5 years ago. From the start, I had terrible halos and huge starbursts at night. I had a multifocal contact lens in the right eye since the cataract in that eye wasn’t bad, so was able to scrape by driving at night. But the starbursts in the left eye are so bad I was never really comfortable with night driving, especially on a 2 lane road with direct oncoming traffic. Awful!!! Now the right eye cataract has progressed such that I have to get an IOL for it too. I’m torn between the vivity or the mono distance with a multifocal contact lens over it. Can anyone guide me as to the halo/starburst side effects of the vivity? I’ve read all the studies I can find, but they are conflicting and suspicious when funded by the manufacturer. Dr. is recommending mono implant for distance. Don’t know what to do. Help!!!
I considered the Vivity for one eye, but got cold feet and went with a monofocal. In your situation, assuming you have good near vision with the MF lens I would just go with a distance monofocal in the second eye. The hope would be that the high quality distance image would dominate and you could ignore the halos from the MF lens in the other eye.
