Hi I'm 19 yrs old and hav been suffering from an itchy vulva for over a yr seen the dr a million times and tried various creams etc. The specialist told me that they don't know what's wrong and theres nothing they can do. As well as the itch its immensely painful during sex, ive tried wearing different clothes and using diff soaps or none at all, everything thats been suggested to me hasn't worked... the itch appears to be associated with the amount of discharge i have? im starting to lose faith does anybody know anything I can try???

Hi VSG, I've had problems with thrush/water infections, and also soreness/ inflammation of the skin and itchiness in my vulval area. I know passing water can cause stinging of the skin.
Avoid soaps, and wash with aqueous cream or another soap substitute, don't shampoo your hair in the bath, as you're then sitting in the shampoo and that can make the irritation worse. I've recently found that drying my vulva and surrounding area with my hairdryer is more gentle than rubbing with a towel, and also makes sure area is properly dry, before putting on knickers. Use lowest heat speed setting, with your hairdryer as otherwise it can be a bit fierce. Re knickers, try to wear cotton ones as much as possible, and avoid synthetic fibres, I also go \"commando\" as much as I can, and switch to washing clothes that come into contact with that region in non bio washing powder.
It might be worth getting a small jug and rinsing with water after urination, so that the wee doesn't sting your skin. I know it isn't always going to be practical to do this or carry your hairdryer with you whenever you're out and about, but could try this at home. Also after passing water you could apply aqueous cream. These are some of the steps I'm taking to try and reduce itchiness. I know I find sexual intercourse can be painful, I do find myself with internal pain on my R/H side afterwards, and my vulval skin feel itchy and irritated too, but yet can't seem to find anything wrong gynaecologically.

I just wondered how you go "commando" - I have read on lots of similar threads that women suffering from itchiness will do this, and my gynocologist has recommended it to me. I definitely cannot do this, as I get so much white, sticky discharge which would either stick to my pants or legs if I'm wearing a skirt. Advice on how to do this would be much appreciated! I've suffered from itching for 4 and a half years and I really need to try anything that might help!

Do you wear polyester clothes, polyester cotton knickers, sleep on cotton polyester sheets? Try changing all of them to 100%cotton. I am very allergic to polyester. It produces all the symptom you have.
