Waiting for scope to be done - can anything be done with abdo adhesions?

Over the past 20 years I have had 3 operations - appendix/ ovary removal, hiatus hernia repair and finally a full abdominal hysterectomy 10 months ago. I now have really messed up bowels - with awful constipation and pain when I do go, so after a visit to my docs am waiting for a scope to see if I have adhesions or polyps. Not entirely sure whether I'm having a colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy - not sure of the difference either! What I do know is I had a very large fibroid removed which was sitting on my bowel  on one side - and have always had pain where my appendix was  on the other side - which means I get double the pain when I go to the loo now. If adhesions are found what, if anything can be done. I am now on sachets of laxido to keep things moving - and they do help. Will I need to stay on them forever???

Discuss this with your doctor at the next appointment. Only he know your medical history well enough and a trained physician who can help you thru. It sounds like you have been thru a lot lately and a bit worried. I would be too. Sometimes anxiety gets us and maybe there is something that can help that too!

good luck.

Thanks for your reply! I have got my 1st hospital appointment - so I will be asking questions then. I have found a little bit out now by reading up - and I have found that scopes show polyps and scar tissue/ issues within the colon -but not adhesions - although they can suspect these if colon movement is restricted. Not letting it worry me too much- will see how things go!
