Good morning from Portland Oregon USA! I haven't posted in a
long time. My name is Glenna and I am waiting for a RTHR.
It has deteriorated quite rapidly since I was in to see my
surgeon. My hip is bone on bone, grinding and it feels
like an ice pick when I move. I have to pick it up with my
arms when I move to lay down. Reading your messages this
last handful of months, has really helped me to know what to
expect. I am praying that I can have my surgery soon or I
will end up in the emergency room! My husband is an
amazing nurse, so I am in great shape there. I see the
surgeon in a week for a final decision, but my hip is a birth
defect that got intolerable a couple of months ago. My
Xray clearly shows why I am in so much pain. Drop me a line
if you will, would love your support!
Hi Celticarma:
Wow, you sound ready for this!! You'll be fine!!! It's easier than you think!
I was involved in a motor vehicle accident when I was 22 some 34 years ago. And, all the wear and tear on my joint over the years and arthritis that formed their caused me to have no Cartiledge left and the result was my Right Total Hip replacement , RTHP. I am coming along! But, the first thing I noticed I was no longer reaching for the pain pills every 4 hours. NO MORE PAIN, it's amazing! Even though I contracted some bacterial infection at my surgery site and had to be re-admitted I am happy because I don't have any more Pain!! I repeat NO PAIN
You will be fine! All the best!
Hi Glenna
I'm Rosie from Aberdeen, Scotland. I too am waiting for a RTHR - checking my mailbox daily in the hope that there's a letter telling me when I will get it done, but every day is a disappointment! I don;t think I'm in as much pain as you, but mine really gets me down, so I REALLY sympathise with you. I also lift my leg with my hands and the surgeon asked me why I was doing it! Well DUH!!! I have found reading others experiences on this forum and asking my own questions as they occur to me has helped enormously, both with my minor anxieties and also by frustration at the lack of action. Hang in there girl - in a year hopefully we'll both look back with relief because it's all over and we're back to normal
Hi Mary, and thank you for your quick response! I love the
positive feedback on this site. I am glad that you had such a great experience. It gives me hope that I can walk with
less or no pain. I'm on morphine around the clock right
now and I really want to get off of it or reduce my dose.
I have other health issues that may get alot better by
just being able to exercise!
On a side note, I am Scots/Irish and hope to get over
there before I die!
Hi Glenna, Sorry to hear you are in so much pain, I,m praying for you, that your surgery will come quickly and you will have a speedy recovery. I had a motorcycle crash when I was a lad, brakeing my hip, it needed metal work to repair it, whtch lead to my haveing a THR, I,m 6 weeks post op. walking well with one crutch, the pain has gone. So dont worry about the op. its over before you know it, you are on your feet the next day , and guess what !! " no pain" keep in touch Glenna, be nice to know how your getting on.
Blessings
Brian
Hi, Rosie! Thank you for your quick response. Love your
picture and we are pretty close in age! I'm sorry you are
waiting for so long, too. Have you had hip problems
for ever, too? I am house bound now. I only go to doctor
appointments, because I have to and I am qualified for
door to door shuttle service.
I really appreciate your time and I hope you get your
letter very soon, please stay in touch! Slainte!
No I haven't had it long - started about 18 months ago but up until February of this year they were telling me it wasn't arthritis! Up till the time it started I was pretty fit so this hobbling about with a stick is really getting me down
Hi Brian and thanks for the quick reply! I'm not afraid of the
actual surgery, I have been in the medical field since I
was 16 and I am 51 now. It's the recovery, I am a big baby.
Thanks for the warm welcome, I think the pain pills are
kicking in and I need to lay myself down. I hope that you have a great day!
I bet! I'm glad you are on here! I love all the different types of
people saying what they went through. I used to weigh about
350lbs and lost 200. I miss hiking and walking any where
without the pain. I have had a hard time keeping up with
my weight loss and using food again for comfort. We have
been slowly stocking up on meals to freeze for later. Okay, I
do need to try to eat breaky.★★★
Wow well done on the weight loss! I have been trying to lose some but without exercise and food for comfort I'm fighting a losing battle!
Hi Celticarma
Reading your post reminded me of the pain and suffering I had for 4 years post op and really feel for you.
Once I found out that I needed Thr , for some unknown reasons the pain got worse and it was so bad the 5 weeks waiting time was too long for me.
While I was waiting for the due date I started going swimming which helped me a great deal and also walked to keep it going.
It's 13 weeks since I had it done I am a new person. (I am one of the lucky one as I did experience No problem except the medications.)
I got rid of the crutches and now I walk 6-7 miles and swim PAINless and each day I thank God .
My advise for you is to be positive, and you will see the light at the end.
best wishes
Glenna, I hope you get your surgery very soon. I think I must have worn out my hip with dancing, cross country running, hockey and latterly netball. It was bone on bone and then impacting up into my pelvis. I was dreading coming out the other side of the op and the long recovery. I had my op on Thursday and believe me the relief when you waken up pain free is amazing and sooo worth it. You will be well looked after and have lots of fellow "hippies" on here for advice and encouragement. Good luck, hope you get called soon x
Hi Glenna
I hope you get your op soon. Anyone who has experienced bone on bone pain will know what you are going through.
I'm 12 weeks post op tomorrow & although the last few weeks haven't always been easy , it's such a relief to be rid of that awful pain.
All the best, keep us updated on your progress.
Hi Fiona..what a lovely name, if you don't mind me saying so!
Thank you for the warm welcome. Wow, this is going better just being able to get some support, etc. Yes, I was very active
for the most part. We used to go on hikes, travel, whale
watches, swim . Anyway, I am happy that I had sugery
to lose and I lost 200lbs! But that put so much strain on
a hip that wasn't designed to be a shock absorberfor so long.
Now everything hurts and I grind my teeth and clench my
muscles.
Thanks to everyone who keeps coming back♥♥♥
Hello M,
thanks for the post. I'm so looking forward to swimming
in a while. The hope of sitting in the sunshine and not
being in so much pain keeps me going. That and my
grand kids and love of Christ. I thank God every day and
try to use "this too, shall pass".
Have an awesome day, m!
Hi Celticrma
I webt on the list yesterday for LTHR. I have every sympathy with you, my hips is also bone on bone but caused by arthritus over the last 12-15 years. This is a lovely site as I found when I joined yesterday so many friendly people, so that you don't feel alone in your pain.
Hi Glenna
my wait is over - I have an admission date of 4th June. 😀😀😀😷 now I'm really scared
hope you won't have to wait too long
