Susan

Hi. I don't live in your area. I live in Mid Wales but was referred to orthopaedic hosp in Shropshire. My neighbour also had hers done in the same way. Wales is notorious for people having to wait for a long time on waiting lists. Example....I saw optician last year in Shropshire who referred me for cataract op and told me it would be done in 2 weeks. She then noticed my address and said 'oh sorry, you live in Wales so it will be 6 to 8 weeks !!!!! and she was right.

Anyway with this information I can tell you that my neighbour waited 2 months and I waited 3 months for op.

Not what you were really wanting but may compare with averages you already have.

Good luck for your op....You'll be hip pain free soon.

Hi Susan

i had left hip replacement May 30 just got driving again and walking ok when right hip started acting up. Had X-ray and its bone on bone saw the surgeon, signed up for surgery and also put name on cancellation list, however here in Ontario Canada the wait time for hip surgery is 8 to 10 months.  The pain is pretty bad already and now using two sticks when I go out and walker inside, very depressing. I'm still doing the physio exercises at home in order to help the left hip and to build up muscles in right hip, despite the pain.  So now it's a waiting game.

good luck for your surgery, hope you don't have to wait very long, it all will be worth it.

all the best,

Ginny

Hi Susan I am Lanarkshire, Scotland I have been on the waiting list for 23 weeks now and I am demented the pain is unbearable.  I have to sleep sitting up in the bed as I can't lie on the bad hip, and I've not been able to lie on my right hip since it was replaced in 2015.  Hope you hear something soon. Take Care

Hi Susan

Sorry, I'm also not in the same area as you, I'm in Sussex.  Last year, I received a surprise diagnosis of severe OA. I was pro-active as I went through the system and asked for my referral letters to be emailed to me.  After receiving the emailed referral, I waited 24 hours and then phoned up the next point on the system.  The result was that I saw the surgeon within 2 weeks of the final referral and was operated on 5 weeks after seeing the surgeon.

I'm having my other hip done next month (very soon to be this month) and again I phoned up the Waiting List Dept to get an op date.

So, my advice is be proactive and don't wait for the hospital to contact you.

Best of luck.
