Hi I am just wondering how long people are waiting in Lanarkshire area for hip replacement? I have now been on the waiting list for 19 weeks and am struggling to cope, have tried to contact various NHS advisors but can get no information as to how long I will wait. Would be grateful if anyone could respond
Thanks
In my area in the south of England the wait is around twenty weeks.
Yes it is a struggle to keep going isn't, painful too !! Perhaps see you Dr for stronger pain killers ? 👣
Thanks for replying just curious to know as I'm desperate to get it done.
Thanks x
How long ago did you see your orthopaedic surgeon? I am sure you should be contacted soon for your pre op. I think they aim for eighteen weeks so hopefully it should not be too much longer.
Hello there
I had my hip replaced in june in the golden jubilee. I had a loooong wait in Glasgow. My original surgeon retired and he referred me to another consultant, which took 3 months to see him. I was added to his list and received a letter advising op would be latest end of December. I got a call advising cant make those timescales and didvI wantvreferred to another consultant. Given this was already second consultant I was reluctant to start again. I asked how long the wait would be if I waited and was told March. Given it was 3 months to wait on second consultant I decided I may as well wait. Letter arrived confirming latest 21st March. March arrived, heard nothing so called and was gobsmacked to be told likely September. 11 months after being added to the second surgeons list. And 14 months since original consultant retired. In desperation I asked if GP could help and he couldnt...however he suggested I contacted MSP. Which I was reluctant to do..not sure why. But I did. Got a call within a week. And transferred to Golden Jubilee and done in 3 weeks. They were fabulous. Speaking to some other people similar stories to mine. One 11 months, another 9 months. In meantime my pain had got really bad and I rarely went out. I work from home or would have really struggled. Perhaps it might be worth doing as my GP suggested. It is poor to have to do that. But I didnt see how I could wait another 6 months. Clearly targets are not being met. I hope you get a date soon, and if offered the Golden jubilee I would say go for it. Let us know how you get on.
Hi I seen my consultant March the 21st had my pre assessment on the 19th April so now need that done again. When I got my right hip Done in March 2015 I never waited this long.
Hi there, First of all what is MSP? I know I'm probably being stupid, I would definitely go to the jubilee if it was offered. I am only getting out to go to doctors or hospital appointments my left leg which is the hip that is needing Done is so badly swollen that they have sent me for an ultrasound twice as they keep thinking I have a dvt which I don't. The targets are definitely not being met and monk lands where I got my right hip Done in 2015 have transferred all orthopaedic operations to Hairmyers or Wishaw, I am supposed to be Hairmyers, I have phoned everywhere I can think of for an answer to see if they could even give me a timescale but nobody can. I never had this problem with my first hip, but the pain in this one is horrendous and last August they put me on morphine (longtec 50mg) and shortec (20mg) which I am not happy to be on as it does not control the pain, 4 weeks ago they gave me gabapentin as well, sorry for ranting I am just so fed up. I also have to sleep sitting up as. I can't lie on the side of my new hip and since August I can't lie on the one waiting to get done, so now have bed sore ( lucky white heather) so my life is just fantastic just now lol x anyway thanks for replying it was really kind of you x
How is your new hip? Can you lie on it?
Sounds like you are having a really bad time of it. MSP. Member of scottish parliament. I didnt know who mine was! I got his email from his website and he replied the next day and wrote to the chief executive asking why I had waited so long and 2 failed timescales. As say worked promptly. I am now 8 weeks and I cant beleive the awful pain has gone. Can sleep on the operated side now. I was very uncomfortable on my back at first, and gave me very sore pressure points on my heels which was much worse than the hip pain. I came off all painkillers after second week without as much as a paracetamol. Miraculous. Popped tons stuff before op and only took the barest off the worst of it. I still have one crutch and hip restructions for another 4 weeks. But cant beleive the awful pain has gone. I am 55.. so looking forward to enjoying walking as before. I hope you get seen soon, too much pain just takes it toll on you. Xx
No idea why my reply is waiting to be moderated. Will retype if not cleared.
Jacq, if timescales are the same as England then if treatment is not completed within 18 weeks then you need to contact your local clinical commissioning group or equivalent. They can arrange treatment elsewhere even a private hospital.
Hi I thought that was what you meant MSP but wasn't sure if it was someone you contacted in the hospital. I am 54 and it will be 10 years in March since they told me I needed both my hips done right away but said I was too young and then they said I needed to lose weight. I also have pressure sores on my heels I am going to the doctors tomorrow and if I don't get any joy I will get in contact with my MSP. Thank so much for you reply it was most helpful. Xx
HI I think the timescale is the same I have tried contacting a few nhs organisations about the time to treatment charter but they all just basically said I have to put up and wait there is nothing anyone can do. Thanks I will look further into it.
Hi Lisa I am on Morphine slow release and also break through Morphine as well as gabapentin and paracetamol which I am not happy about as I don't want to be taking all these drugs as they don't even dent the pain. I have the doctors tomorrow so I will see what he says if he can push things along but I doubt it
Good luck at the doctors tomorrow. I tried many things for my heels. I had really good suggestions when I asked the question of the forum members. What helped was a cushion from well known online store. A leg elevator, the heels dangle. Bliss. I have used it every night since. I lie for a couple of hours with legs raised, then switch to side for a bit. Then back. I have a v shaped pillow i put between knees and I feel very secure when lying in my side. Its all a bit of a faff shifting round but worth it for a few good hours. I put it off for several years and suddenly deteriorated. I hope you get some joy soon. You must be at the end of your tether with pain as bad and not sleeping either. Keep us posted xx
Thanks Osprey I will do, hopefully get my date soon. X
I waited about 6 months in Scarborough. I rang the waiting list at the hospital and said I would take a cancellation. 3 weeks later I got one , the week before Christmas! You have to be prepared to go in in 48 hours.
I believe that Jeremy Hunt has now axed the 18 week target for the time being, as so many ops were missed.
Hi so does that mean has he set a different time scale I am demented the pain is horrendous and I'm not getting out now.
Thank you for replying x
