Waking up early hours, week 3 citalopram? Is this a blip?

Hi

So I have been doing pretty well the past three weeks but this week I seem to be taking a step back? Sleep wasn’t a massive problem before but insomnia has started now and I don’t do well on lack of sleep. In fact it makes me more anxious, achey and nauseous.

Is this likely to be a side effect from the cit? Even though I’ve been ok before?

I’m finding it very hard again and thought I was out of the bad phase.

You need to give this medication time to work fully, possibly five weeks or so.

You can try Relaxation Techniques, Mindfulness, may help. Books for sale on Amazon or you may find a site on the net to explain it to you.

If you are having a course of CBT talk to your CPN regards this self help method.

Hi bob

Thank you for your reply.

I have been added to a anxiety therapy group, however it doesn’t start until the end of February.

I have been trying meditation, using the headspace app. And have read the book “ making friends with anxiety “.

I am currently suffering with a rotator cuff injury ( possibly) just had a X-ray yesterday after dealing with pain in my arm, shoulder and neck for 5 months. This only adds to my muscle discomfort.

My main symptoms are feelings of impending doom. Like wanting to just get off the world for a little while. Headaches, jaw tightness and ache. All Over body pain. Tight chest. Heart palpitations etc.

It’s difficult to stop worrying about anxiety when you are feeling the physical symptoms of it. It’s a horrible vicious circle.

I hope these meds help me soon, so I can get back to normal for a while.

I’m on 10mg. Doctors feel that is enough for me.

Insomnia is the worst though. I’ve suffered insomnia before but it wasn’t this bad.

Debating just taking a diazepam and going to bed.

But instead I’m going to have a really hot bath with some lavender in and see if that helps.

At this time mental health treatments at this time can be a long wait.

One thing you could try is look for a Mental Health Day Centre in your area. I was an Information Officer  quite a long time ago. Many of these centres have CBT in house, it may be rationed although it would give some form of treatment until you can be picked up on your main treatment plan in Feb 2018.

Getting plenty of sleep wen ill can be a problem. One thing I have found is not too eat after eight thirty pm  and only eat a slight amount. When you go to bed go at the same time every night your body will then consider that time for sleep and will expect that.Try and sleep in a cool room, not a hot or cold room.

You are on Citalopram, take your tablet at night, that should help you too sleep
