Walking straight after TKR

I tend to walk with my toes turned out plus wear the corners of my shoes soles. Have been told when knees are done you walk straight as Surgeon sets them up like that. Anybody care to comment.

After you TKR and when your into your recovery,they’ll come a time when you start walking without sticks and you’ll find you have to learn how to walk again and I mean from scratch,I had to mentally go heal-toe heal-toe each step until it came naturally again.

Like you I also tended to walk with toes pointed out just a little. Had not really thought about tkr straightening that up but that might explain why my ankle has been hurting so much. It is to the point that it almost hurts more than the knee does at times especially at night when I'm trying to sleep.

Good luck with your surgery. Hopefully all the pain that you have to endure will be well worth it in the end. I'm still waiting for the pain to ease up but I'm only 5 weeks po so it may be a while yet.

LIES... I have never had a problem with the way I walk. My left knee which I had surgery on is turning towards my right knee and am almost 6 months post- op. Still having problems

Thanks for your comments, can't wait until it gets done as the other knee is failing rapidly with relying on it now. When you hear these things you are never sure, and interested to know you have to learn to walk again, that might take me back a year or two.

​Well my comments are not an exact fit as to what you are asking - but - will give you an indication.

​I had a right side partial knee replacement done on 6 Nov 2015. I am now 73 and drive a tourist bus 30 -40 hours a week (depending on passenger numbers) which involves constantly loading/unloading passengers heavy baggage ( 15 kg and over).

Prior to the surgery I had had increasing pain over the years from the lower back and the right Sacrilliac joint.

​During surgery the surgeon realigned my whole leg/hip and ankle geometry and now I have no pain from lower back or right Si joint - just brilliant. Yeah sure I get the occasional twinge but considering age and the work I do I ain't ever gonna bounce around like to 40 year old again.

Thanks for that info John, I am 74 now and know what you mean throwing bags about as I was coach driving until I was 68 and since then run a small caravan park and keep poultry. Know there is pain to go through, but if I can throw my stick away that will be good, just a bit worried of the damage it is doing to my other knee while waiting for the op. Glad to hear things have improved for you, but at this age you have to keep taking the tablets.
