i had a really good day yesterday 3 weeks and 4 days post op.
I am not using a stick in the house at all, I can bend my knees when I am in my sloth like position on the settee ( although not all the time ) I tidied up some clutter ( I think I could be a hoarder if I tried a little bit harder!) I did some work on my computer for school, I had long periods of hippie fix on this forum, ( do you think we will all have to join a forum for obsessive use of forums soon) and then I took my 2 hooligan border terriers for a walk - all by myself, FREEDOM!!!! Well what a juggling act that was - one lead with a splitter thing, 2 hooligans, a small birthday present for a friend, a birthday card, 2 bags of poo , a walking stick and too many layers when the sun shone!!!! Oh my word , the added complication of having to stop as my husband kept texting me to check I was ok out in the big wide world, at which point I had to juggle all the stuff to find my phone.
So all in all, walking was easy peasy, but juggling at the same time was tricky. Oh the relief of dropping off the present and finding a bin for the poo and taking my coat off. Small pleasures. !!!!
todays challenge is to get a urine sample from my dog and take it to the vets. My old Labrador has arthritis and the vet won't give me any more of his anti inflammatory unless I take a urine sample in. I just can't wait for this next level of juggling to take place - so will rest on the settee until I feel energetic enough !!!
have a good day all of you.
Love Malloo
ps I was reading in another discussion about shoes. I have got some Sketchers, I think they have memory foam inside and have loads of sort of bubbly support underneath, they are SO comfortable and supportive when walking x
Loved your post and it's good to see you quite chirpy!!
I agree with you about the Sketchers shoes, I have a pair and they are really comfy especially if your feet are a bit swollen after, because they have "give".
Morning Malloo, sounds like you had a busy day yesterday! I can't wait to take my dog out (I've been up the road with his lead handle threaded around my crutch hand)! I'm down to 1 crutch in the house but still take 2 when I'm 'walking the streets'! I bet you did look funny juggling everything! I bought a long handled poop scoop from Crufts but I don't think I'll need it now as I've mastered the 'golfers stance'! I bought some of those Sketchers shoes a few weeks before my op, they are so comfy. I'm going to a funeral today & have borrowed a wheelchair - no way I would have squeezed into a church pew. Have a good day collecting wee samples! X
Of course, I remember you telling me before as I have family in North Yorkshire. I was probably away with the fairies in hospital when you told me before! X
Well I managed with some difficulty !!! The. Eats give you a strange contraption to collect wee in, but it foes depend somewhat on the co-operation of the dog- anyway I managed to collect a dribble!!!
I walked to the vets and back 3 miles !!!!!!! My hip was fabulous, my gait was infinitely better than before the op. I would say I am fairly useless at knowing the best way to use my stick. And I am extremely tired now, but I am quite proud of myself ( mind you I would normally do that before and after school and put a full dates dork in between ) my muscles are aching now in my thigh and my calf but my hip feels bionic!!!!!
So now back to being a lady of leisure !!! I shall sit in the dun and do my cross stitch. X
You are doing awesome. Be careful with your dogs they could cause you to exert more pressure than you should imam uncontrolled fashion which could hurt you. I fractured my femur at 19 days out. It was just lifting a bag of laundry. I had a bag that was like a big backpack so the straps were at waist level and just put it on my Rollator which was immediately beside the bag. Has been a uphill battle ever since. be careful.
Malloo - what a wonderful, happy postcard to all of us. I smiled all the way though reading it as you juggled your way though all your errands!
Thank you! It was just lovely to hear you sounding so well.
And ... good to hear that husbands worldwide are hovering to ensure we are holding our own. The first time out driving alone I got several phonecalls. 😊 He is slightly more relaxed now but still edgy when I am off somewhere. Sweet but I am really doing well now and feel quite confident. Now if I was attempting more rugged activities than walking, driving, doing chores ... I grant you that I might welcome the check-in. But my other hip won't really allow for that for a while.
Tell those two little hooligans to be gentle with you!
That is wonderful Malloo! I am so happy for you, sounds like you are doing just fantastic.....Oh the joys of Freedom! Doesn't it just feel wonderful to be able to do something that we were not able to do for so long? I hope your healing continues along well for you......Blessings......Barb
