hi i was prescribed fluxotine in nov last year and i found they were wonderful.i was a completly different person.relaxed and chilled and was enjoying my life again i was married in dec to a wonderful man who has encoureged and helped me all the way.but in feb i went to the doctors and was told i was pregnant and had to come of them right away.the first couple weeks i felt great and hoped that it had passed and i was going to be ok without the pills but im starting to feel the way i did in nov low and teary and very snappy. im scared it will start again and i desperatly want to go back on the pills but they could harm our baby.i dont know what to do any suggestions.
Hiya jeedan i was also on fluxotine last year before finding out i was pregnant ,i came off them straightaway,
and felt absolutely awful so went to my docs n explained to her,
she prescribed me a different medication which she said they use on pregnant women suffering depression that would\"nt harm my baby.
well i started them 2 months ago they have helped me get by ,but nowhere as effective as fluxotine was for me but better than feeling as low as i did.
i would suggest u go to see your gp coz there is alternatives ,n you need to look after urself even more so now that you r pregnant.
goodluck n let me know how u get on .
debs x
Hi jeeden
First can i congratulate you on your pregnancy,i was reading a article on pregnancy and fluoxetine, did you stop them at once? or did you taper off them, because what you need to remember is that your hormones will be all over the place.this is the part i can remember about the pregnancy and fluoxetine that i read.
Some women will find themselves to be pregnant while taking an antidepressant, and 10-20% of pregnant women experience major depressive symptoms during pregnancy. Women should be advised against abrupt discontinuation of antidepressants during pregnancy.
It is also very important not to take.St John’s wort,it should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding until further evidence regarding its safety in these situations is available.”
You also need to make sure that you are taking your folic acid that is very important.
Good luck and i hope you have a happy pregnancy.
A year ago an exchange was posted regarding fluxotine and pregnancy.
Danielle, which SSRI have you been switched to? Because I just started taking Citalopram, loved it, but then found out unexpectedly that I am pregnant. Now my GP wants to switch me TO fluxotine and I am rather confused. - Thanks for your help in advance.
(Really she wants me to get off everything, but I a loathe to do that. I am messing about with this whatever-is-wrong-with-me (I'd suggest depressive moods covered up by well developped coping mechanisms, turning the whole thing into a chronic malaise) for years now and having seen the light for a few blissful days, I'd hate to loose it again. ESPECIALLY now, that I'm pregnant. If I'd be younger, I might try without, hoping for amother, sunnier pregnanacy later on. But that is out of the question - I'm 43.)
