Had a successful Left Hip Replacement 3 years ago, and my Right Hip replaced 5 weeks ago. I am making good progress but I have noticed that the 2nd op is far neater and I do not have muscle wastage. On the first op my hip muscle seems to have slipped and I have an uneveness on this side. Looking at my previous notes, I quote 'she has some wasting of the gluteus maximus muscle as well? inferior gluteal nerve palsy'. Can anyone enlighten me on this and have you experienced a similar outcome?
Hi
I had my first hip replacement (right) 5 years ago. It has never been satisfactory and I have quite severe muscle wastage plus nerve pain and tenderness. I had found a different surgeon who said he would "work on it" after he had replaced my second hip (left). I had the operation in early March and now also have the same huge dent in my left buttock where I should have muscle. This I believe is the same as you are describing.
I was due to see the surgeon last month but this was cancelled and I am now seeing a different surgeon next week. I don't know why the first one was cancelled or what the second will say. How can I have had two hips replaced and the same severe symptoms in both.
I will ask next week if this is what you describe and let you know the outcome.
any indication as to what is causing this? what approach was done on your hips? good luck to you.
I'm sorry if I am repeating myself, but couldn't find a trace of my reply which i thought I had sent. Thank you for your response, and I look forward to the outcome of your visit next week. It does seem a bit of a mystery and by the response it doesn't seem that common.
