Going through this difficult journey, it really opened my eyes to how little training most doctors get dealing with women issues. It scares me to think of all the women who are suffering in silence.
There are some doctors out there who major in this issue, but the numbers are not enough. We need way more, snd fast.
I definitely believe you are lucky if you get a doctor that not only has some knowledge but also understands and sympathised with you. But those are few and far between, I think if it isn't clinical then they struggle with alternative explanations. For example how many ladies here have had several physical and mental symptoms and have gone to the doctors only to find that their blood tests are normal and the only explanation the doctor can offer is depression or anxiety which in turn is quickly dealt with by medication. Not being understood is a major issue, you need to know you are not going mad, you need to know that the physical symptoms are not due to disease and illness. To have a doctor sit there and say " I understand and those are a few signs that your body is changing, let's look at how we can help you deal with this" would be fantastic. Reading posts on this forum has helped me no end and that is because all of you have experienced something and understand the fear and uncertainty of what is happening to us. Thank you girls!
Good luck with that one! It's not just the menopause where they show their ignorance. They are totally out of date regarding diabetes, cholesterol and nutrition. I'm totally disillusioned with mine.
I agree with that docs don't listen to there patients. Quick to just write Perscription and send you on your way. Alot of the symptoms we have can be scary to deal not knowing if all in your head or something worry about. We need to stick together and help each other out. For me everyday have a different symptom.
Yes, they need too. I find it funny most of Gyn doctors happen to be men. It seems that once you reach the end of your fertile days. Your tossed to the side of the road to fend for yourself.
My, I can only say ex now, due to her complete change in personality
Went to see the doctor about her nail being brittle, doctor (male) didn't ask her if she was experiencing any other peri symptoms, he just gave her a prescription for something for her nail, if he'd dug a bit deeper it might, just might of saved our relationship!
Yes it's terrible. I have enough stuff going on with me and I hate when they keep Pshawing me like it's all in my head. Certainly not in my head I'm bleeding ! Complete opposite direction
I am sorry to hear about your relationship. I don't know the details of your ex's visit to the doctor. Did she ever discuss any of her symptoms with the doctor?
No, she was in complete denial, I see all the signs, all of them, I pleaded with her to go to the doctors but she said there was no need and there was nothing wrong with her.
11 years of a 99.9% perfect loving relationship gone
Did they do blood work, to test your hormone levels. They said the closer you are to menopause the more erratic your periods get. I remember sometimes i would bleed for a month straight. Than nothing for 2 months straight. I would also get my periods twice in one month. Heavy clotting. I thought I was going to die from blood loss. My doctor would tell me to take iron supplements, which used to make my stomach upset. It did not work anyway.
Fast forward 2 years I am in menopause. My hormones are still all over the place.
Its so true most Gyno are men and they don't understand!!?? I went to my gyno few months ago to find out the doctor was a make when I specifically asked to see a female doctor. I end up seeing physician assistant which I'm glad because she totally understood me and told me everything I'm having is all related to perimenopause and to hang in there and she didn't suggest hormones unless it was that bad. But she said keep yourself busy busy so your mind is not occupied of everything that feels wrong with my body. And it really works. My first year was horrible and I couldn't even get up out of bed no energy and it's because our hormones are adjusting and the body needs to recognize the changes. I truly believe that. And yes my doctor originally said its depression and just sent me off with meds but I never took them and knew it was more than that!! So I'm gettin better as it is going on my 3rd year with this and I'll be 44yo soon! Do your research too that helps!
Yes, i have been researching so much on the internet, that my eyes are getting tired
I try to read as many articles about alternative treatments, supplements and nutrition that I can. Some of them has actually been helping some of symptoms.
