Has anyone else experienced ibs after weaning off this antidepressant? I did some research and I've seen a few people mention ibs getting worse after coming off ssris as serotonin has a part to play in the digestive system and removing that can really unsettle it?
Ibs is causing me a lot of stress and problems so I'm considering going back on them just to stop it. I went through so many awful symptoms weaning and I really don't want to go back onto them, but it is so bad and no other alternative things are helping!
Hello! Yes it can mess with your stomach coming off them, and should be temporary. How long has it been since your last dose?
I was on Citalopram on and off for 20 years. I stopped taking it completely 2 years ago.Among the many problems I had when I came of SSRI's was pelvic and abdominal pain. I thought the pelvic pain was from a fracture but that has long since healed. I was told that apart from treating depression SSRI's manage chronic pain. I am a sufferer of IBS which has flares. This has notably got worse since stopping anti depressants but I won't go back on them just to control pain. I'm afraid this is that brain -gut axis, the more stressed we are the our IBS is likely to flare. I know this is not very helpful but if you understand the link then you can better address the causes. I am currently on Symprove, very expensive and I thought it was helping but I do still have flares, just fewer. Good Luck
