Weary!

Hi guys, one week to go before lthr.

Been as healthy as poss no booze, trying to drink water ++ and not taking too many painkillers as useless anyhow.

Trying to remain active also, but have you ever been totally stuck in one position? like just immobile with the pain and weakness of hip and cant get moving from sitting to standing, I cry with the frustration occassionally.

im just moaning i know its the norm when for severe arthritis but guys how do you cope?

Im a very independent active person and find it so tough some days.

thanks a mill
sandra

hi. think most of us can relate to your pain etc. I know I used to hate having to stand in one position ( in the kitchen or at a cash till in a shop) cos of the bone on bone pain I was getting. only way to relieve the pain was to move which meant more pain. anyway all I’ll say is 2 hrs post op when they had me standing i couldn’t believe i had no pain . ok i had drugs whizzing thro me but i had them pre OP as well. I’d now describe any pain post OP as a soreness which it certainly wasnt before.
good luck. you’ll find each day / week is different to the last. my advice is listen to your body / rest when yu need to / keep on with your meds if you need them / do the exercises as a new routine.
let us know how you get on

I am now 11months post TRH and 7 years TLH aged now 52.
I have regained my fitness gym twice a week and walk 3 times a week. Keeping my weight in check is so important.

Step count 12500 most days and hip pain free.
The initial recovery is difficult following post op guidlines ensured my recovery.
I have a young family and I can keep up lol.
Good luck x

Hang tight Sandra, there’s light at the end of the tunnel… the bad news is you’re in pain and need hip replacement but the good news is that all going well pain will soon be a distant memory. You’re doing all the right things in trying to remain as active as you can but be kind to yourself and don’t cause extra pain.
I am 9 weeks post lthr and back on the bike for short spins and in the sea daily since last week (these particularly have given me a great spurt in recovery). Progress is steady and good. And, best of all, pain free.
Best of luck with op.

sandra19636 I feel your pain :frowning: I so want this outcome everyone talks about, I agree with julie1717 and donny1 focus on the other side, (my partner keeps trying to reinforce this, i’m finding it so hard to imagine) you’re nearly there  I just think it’s fabulous when I read the outcome of surgery, amazing stuff

Yes the pain for me was the same…I cried from the pain and frustration. I froze and couldn’t move. The pain was so bad that meds did almost nothing to help. This surgery is a miracle! I had mine 7 weeks ago and my hip is pain free. You will get there too. My friends and co-workers tell me it is so good to see a smile on my face again. I also am a healthy and active person and worked right up to the day before my surgery … I would go to the washroom and just cry, then suck it up and go back to work… it is an awful way to live.. Keep your chin up. There is a light at the end of the tunnel!

Hi Sandra,
I had my 2nd hip done April 16, 2019.
I still have some tightness to deal with when I get up from sitting B U T the pain is gone… good riddance! walking up & down the stairs is amazing. I’m back to work after 8 wks. Tell the pain to kiss your ass.
All the best and keep us posted.

Hi Sandra,
I’m 75 and have arthritis too. My surgeon said I had to loose weight prior to surgery and build my core muscles. Started at 236 now weight 208. Wasn’t easy but I getting there. Prior to this I was using a Dicofenac Sodium Tropical Gel that seem to work in easing my pain. No internal pain killers. I stay away as much as possible from taking pills.

I don’t know your age or weight so not sure if what I say will help. All I know is my life style change has helped me. I’m eating more plant-based foods and limited red meat. Fish and chicken okay red meat from grass fed animals only. I know this…if all goes well with your surgery the pain you feel now will go away. That is after Physical Therapy. God bless.

Guys thanks so much for all the advice and support. This forum is a lifesaver, and the advice is terrific. I value each and every response on a difficult day. Well get there hippies!

Sandra

I know the feeling i feel its never ending! i have had two hips done in the last six months and its been hell! three steps forward and six back! I had back problems as well so its taking its toll having to lay on back after surgery but looking on the bright side there are a lot of success stories, i am improving slowly and there is light at the end of the tunnel! You will be great after your surgery best of luck take care warmest regards Cyndey

it amazes me that 10 strangers all suffered roughly the same pain can come together and hopefully help Sandra and assure her that she will be okive always said if i can help anyone get through a dark period (which iam sure we have all had) then i would do all i can looks like iam not the only one kinda makes you fell goodhope thau makes sense

Its good to moan and get it out of your system. And yes understand how you feel. I had mine done at the beginning of February and am in such a better place. Today I walked around London with hubby and felt absolutely fine. We go up town every so often, and last year it was awful when we went. Arthritis is dreadful and bone on bone it the worse pain imaginable.
It stopped me from doing most stuff but now life is good!

agree totally. I retired as a nurse almost 6 years ago hoping to have a great retirement - me time. almost from day 1 it’s been engrossed with pain and having to think what I could do . No trips or holidays as I’d planned besides no playing games outside with my new grandchildren . now I’m hoping for the retirement I’d always dreamed of and compared to what was happening even now 7 weeks post OP I’ve walked to places close by I’ve not done for a long time. I keep thinking how lucky new hippies are to get the surgery .my older relations ( great grandparents etc) never got the chance I have been given.
so I’m going to enjoy myself in what ever form that takes. think positive it is out there

beautiful Thanks so much and every best wish for the future

Sandra
