WEEK 6 off statins my diary ..a good result from a good cardio doctor

HI ALL... had my major cardio appointment today 5 months review  the doctor  who i should have seen was poorly and a keen statin man  anyway had his side kick  a juinor but with 4 years of experience and he was superb listened to what i had to say about aches the pains that i have suffered from these poisonous smarties and said STOP the Bisiprol which i knew  was also giving me side effects of pins and needles in left foot and left hand and cold feet which i have never had before...  GO away and come back in 6 months but keep taking asprin  for life and the  cliprol for 1 more month  BUT he did try to get me on Rampril,,Losartan,or Ezetmibe but told me to google the side effects they give you the trots and rashes .... I think i ve had a great  result and hopefully can get my life back on track will update next week  well chuffed

I have taken Losartan for most of the past 14 years with one or two short changes to Ramipril, Irbesartan and Perindopril that did cause nasty side effects. Once I got over initial light headedness on standing Losartan has been no problem apart from a very slight itchiness under the skin at times. My GP says that is an effect of Losartan on the liver but nothing that shows up on tests. On this Forum Losartan seems to be the best tolerated drug.

thanks for reply Derek  looking into drugs today hopefully should get some more replys of here as this site seems to be more honest than the gps advice ABOUT SIDE EFFECTS

At last, a SENSIBLE doctor with a broader view.  Fantastic news Graham, well done for being strong.  By the way perindopril, which my partner takes, is well known for causing throat irritation and often a perpetual dry cough.  A friend takes it too, long term, and was told by his dentist of all people about this effect when he mentioned his cough.  He went to see his GP and they said he should stop taking it for a short period to let the cough settle down as the irritation could cause the throat tissue cells to mutate.  As he'd had mouth cancer previously they were concerned about this aspect.  He stopped for a 3 month period and the cough subsided.

Nothing is plain sailing these drugs  always cause something else and it does make you wonder whether just to gamble like me and take the chance ...my partner has just been to the doctors due to her colestral high at 8,6 he put her straight on statins without asking if she already had any aches which she does have and only wieghs 9 stone and she really looks after herself in diet and keeping fit ..told her not to take them i think it would be mistake????/
