Hello all hope everyone is as well as they can be ??
I have a question! I'm currently taking pregabalin and amatriptolin along with tramadol when need I have put on half a stone since taking my medicine?im not a eater and I don't really drink so I'm confused? Is it meds or something else
Thanks xx gentle big hugs xx
Hi Sadie read the side effect but I'm sure it's the meds see your gp and try to get her or him to change it take care
Hi Sadie, wow thank you Im on the same drugs as you and quite a lot more, but since they increased my amatriplyn and pregablin and tramodole my weight has rocketed. in face I brought 3 new dresses then went to wear them at an event to find they are to tight
I know I need the meds but why do we have to put on weight ahhh .. since having the shingles as well wearing bras are a big NO.NO finding clothes that you can wear which must be cotten NO nylon or Polyaster because it makes the nerves fire up . Do you have some one from a pain clinic that can advise you, may be they can try out different drugs
wishing you well take care

Hi Sadie:
Yes, yes, yes!! Some of these meds cause weight gain. I have gained weight as well Taking neurontin does cause some weight gain. I think it is a steroid type drug. I took very large doses years ago and caused me all kinds of problems. Then, the doctors did not realize that this med in high doses can cause conflicts in your well being. I was taking about 800mg x 5 a day which is pretty extream. amatryptoline is an anti-depressant and pretty strong at that. When I was taking it, upset my stomach at the start and made me feel woozy. After a few weeks it settled down. Anyway before I go, I am not going to give you small hugs but nice big hugs like you do. But they will be gentle. I'm here if you want to talk. Take care, feel better, and keep your spirits up.

Thanks Mel x I got doctors in few weeks so will explore my options as don't really want to stop the drugs that are taking the pain away finally lol I wish I could not take any medicine but to go back to that terrible pain everyday!!
I also hate being over weight as it really depresses me as I used to be a size 6 now I'm a 16 but that is 3 kids later lol and being 35
Hugs x
It's horrible I hate feeling bloated and fat 😩
Meds put the weight on me to! dammit... I found my hair was thinning out and then clumps of hair began to come out..so 'Bu--ar that!!'.... I weened off. They didn't do anything for pain anyway. Well as a Good doctor told me, 'there is NO actual Long Term Painkiller'. So truly, if folk can learn to master the art of some physical balance to prevent flareups, just try to deal with your daily pain/s. Medicate only when you 'really HAVE to'... Eat good food, don't over eat, and get some form of daily mobility going... Spa pool stretches and gentle aerobics maybe, and try to get some sleep, even if it is through the. With our condition there is no real routine sleep hygiene, unless you rely on Sleeping tablets.. then you risk building up the dosage after awhile. So if folk can do it as naturally as one can.. then do it...
I do understand that NOT Everyone has a strong pain tolerance as the next person........... so going as naturally as possible won't suit everyone.
However, think about it this way. If your med's aren't actually doing alot for you!!, then think about the fact your dealing with pain 24/7 anyway...so by revaluating your stragies you may not have to put up with 'weight gain, and useless meds, and side effects of them'...
The other alternative is of course 'Natural Plant'.... a great sleep aid and pain killer.
All the best...
Def agree Hun but my meds work for now if they didn't I wouldn't take them at all hate taking tablets x
I am exactly the same: I’m on amatriptolin and I’ve put on around a stone a year in the last couple of years. I exercise gym/swim three time a week, don’t drink or smoke and eat healthy yet i still put weight on!!! The doctor basically said tough and didn’t really believe me and thinks it’s me not the drugs... Any tips on how to `fix` this side effect would be very welcome...
😱 no one told you me not yo wear synthetics! Seriously?? Insult to injury - now I have to wear granny knickers 😫😫ðŸ˜
Hi sadie1980 Im not on any meds as alergic to opoids. But my weight is up down even though I eat as healthy as possible. from the research Ive done on fibro you weight tends to yo yo. I would read the leaflets to do with your meds and see if it says anything about wifgt gain. take care gentle hugs xx
yep, 2 stone and 8lb on since the meds. but i have lost 8lb of it by dieting hard, but it comes off really slow.
But i can't exercise so it's down to food alone but slow weight loss is better than non at all.
i'm hoping that the weight loss will reduce the pain too so i won't need as many pills but only time will tell.

PREGABLIN . I have put on 3 stone in 2 years. pregablin slows down the mentabolisim . no way out of it except exercise more. there in lies the problem . i am in to much pain for that. dont know myself what to do.
They took me off gabapentin and out me on pregabalin but I had a bad reaction to it. They now want me to go back on to gabapentin. The only thing I've found that's not pill popping to help with the pain is heat. Don't know if anyone else has found this or whether it's because I also have a spinal injury but getting cold is a nightmare. I have a plug in wrap round blanket which keeps me toastie and for work I have a smaller one. If I overdo it or merely have a bad day/night I try that before popping more pills. 😊
well I have read all the messages regarding weight problems are we all females that agree that we are putting on weight with these meds, or is it that the guys dont like to admit toweight issues. at this moment I am struggling to type this as it seems if I get slightly streesed my pain increeses sorry will finish part 2 later jocelyne UK.
Hi
sadie:
These things are so hard to deal with, You would think that these drug companies would find ways to develop these meds so as not to gain weight. They certainly don't consider that. With all the technology around, you would think these big pharmas can find ways to make better medicines. But they don't really care for a patients well being, If they did, ways to develop better medicines can be done, Look at all the chemicals which are synthetics which more than likely not good for you anyway, Look at recalls of newer medicines that happen? Tons of advertisement on TV, magazines and internet promoting this stuff, Is it no wonder why we have to pay exhorberant prices for prescription drugs? We pay not only for their drugs but ads as well. You can see I am ranting as it does bother me. We all hate pain everyday. I would trade anything sometimes to have some relief. Doesn't happen though. It would nice for me to get rid of all the medicines as well. I know some you do have to take like thyroid which I have taken most all my life and some others as well. When you go on the internet, do you see all the new so called natural remedies? I don't know about things like that which cure cancer and such. Me and my wife are overweight as well but it is so hard to lose even when you try to. You are young and at least have lots to go to be on this Earth. Me on the otherhand, is almost the time to be leaving and not to another planet, I think. lol Its so hard to get up each and every day with stiffness, pain, bad balance and whatever else. I have 2 daughters both married but no grandchildren. One don't want and one cant have. Listen, I am retired and at a ripe age of 76, soon to be 77. With all the problems I have, I really don't know how many years I have left but for whatever I have, I know that my life has to be on a positive note. All I can say is to live it the best I can and take each day at a time. You still have the opportunity to see if newer and better medications can come on the market which can cure some diseases. If we had nothing wrong with us, we wouldn't have to take any of the meds that we do. I have to close now so take care, lose the weight to where you were and have a good day.
one strong hug to you makes up for many small hugs.

Hi jocelyne:
I will answer your question about whether males other than females have this problem in gaining weight. Medicines don't choose who to put weight on. Personally, I really don't trust these newer meds. First of all you don't know what it is really made up with. Secondly, many are synthetics so it is full of chemicals. Just check the ingredients of each and every one. I bet many are not even listed. In the day, there were a lot fewer meds but people lived good healthy lives until they did die of various illnesses or being shot or hung. grin They only lived to 50 or maybe 60 until their demise. I'm talking about the early to the later 1800eds. Certainly medical technology advanced and we can honestly say that many vaccinations that were developed wiped out terrible diseases like polio, plague, smallpox and the like. Medicine in those times didn't contain the ingrediants that we have now. It did what it was supposed to do. A lot were antibiotics that worked. Now, we seem to be resistant to many. Personally, I feel that many drug companies got out of hand and are making big profits, not caring arout if what they make is safe anymore. Getting back to our real concerns about medicine. You and I are made of different matabolisms. I also believe is due to hormones in the body. Women may be more prone to weight gain because of different chemical makeup in the body. Do we really know what these medicines can do to us? When you watch all these new medical commercials on TV, look at all the warnings that they can have. I guess the drug companies are made to do this so you are aware of what can happen if something goes wrong so they will not be responsible for any interactions that are caused.or be sued. Personally over the many years, I have gained one important thing and that is wisdom. I do a lot of looking into things, ask questions and then decide. Doctors and drug companies don't really like you to investigate and diagnose your own medical problems and whether some medications are good for you. What doctors prescribe feel that it can help but they don't know whether the medication is safe or not. Doctors are given so many samples of newer meds so they can give you a one or two week supply to try it out. I have had all kinds of reactions to certain meds. I had drugs to were made for cancer patients like methotextrate which made me sick. I been on prednesone which made me gain weight. Steroids will make you put on weight and they can be dangerous as messing up your kidneys. My wifes brother was put on heavy doses of steroids which damaged his kidneys and eventually died at a younger age because of complications. I saw him before he started on these drugs and afterwards he put on at 3x the weight he has been. He looked bad and felt bad. I bet he also was on a lot of pain pills. All this took it's toll. His face looked like it didn't belong and was all puffy. I do blame the medication he was on long term but doctors didn't realize this would happen. Even though he was taken off of these meds, it was basically too late. So, there you have it. I am not a medical doctor or nurse or pharmacist. Personally, I believe that we as patients are not told the truth about meds. I am just a patient like you who is vulnerable to the misgivings of the big pharmas who are out to make as much profit as they can and all due to politics. This is my belief and I am allowed to say this. I am not going to blame anyone or anybody. It just is!!! Well, all on this negative not let me say one thing that is positive. Keep a positive outlook, take care of yourself, do your research, ask questions, and look into some holistic ways you can deal with it. Take care and bell well.
many good hugs
mel
Thank you, just a few words to say, it scares me when Im put on a new drug, living on my own these days, since Chas passed.. I have such a lot of meds that I can no longer take, because of having a rash, or trouble breathing, I go to bed and have my phone on fast ring for two people first is 999 for medical help, and the second one to make contact with my son. Its a scary time (is that spelt ) oh well may be I have invented a new way of spelling "scary" - shhhh I am having a small bottle of "Tiger" beer. and yes I know should not drink with meds but some times its a way of making my evenings a little less lonely.
Right folks time for my bed ouch just looked at the clock its 1.45 am
Night folks I did not realise when we started this subject on putting on weight. it would have such an impact.
