Weight gain

I'm really putting the weight on i've been on citalopram about a year 6 months on 20mg and now 6 months at 10mg and my weight has gone from 9 and a half stone up to 12 and a half. I'm trying to cut down on food exercise but in all this all i can manage is to loose 1lb if any. I'm trying not to let it get to me, but just not used to this weight. Have gone up from a size 10/12 to a 16. I'm getting married next year and would love to be back to my normal weight, but have reservations about reducing my tablets its like a catch 22 situation. I feel depressed now about my weight which was never a problem.

Has anyone else experienced this? please let me know if you have and what you did about it....

Thank you in anticipation.

Hayley

 Hi Polly 13, yes I wouls say I have definately gained some weight, even though I still cant eat very well, I would say nearly a stone, Ive been on 20mgs, then up to 20mgs for 10 months. I dont like going over 8stone so it really upsets me, but his is only a small part of the issues I have.

I have found that walking helps me. Hope you can find some relief somehow, it must be so difficult, one thing after another, yip!!!! Take care Polly 13,Katy

I also have gained weight, especially around my tummy, the citalopram work..but the weight gain is making me miserable..

I am now trying to come off them,,but am experiencing dizzy spells, and feeling sick.

I tried to come off slowly, one every other day then less and less.

I am determined to come off..after 3 yrs..

Does anyone experience these dizzy spells, also I am starting to feel the anxiety coming back,.

I was on Citalopram for about 18 months. I put on around a stone and it just wouldn't shift. When I asked my gp about it she said it was unlikely to be the cit, but she did arrange for me to have a thyroid function test and that came back normal.

Eventually I decided to come off it, and here I am, almost a year later and I've lost about 15lbs without really changing my diet or lifestyle. To my way of thinking the cit slowed everything down, even my metabolism

Rozzy, you are right about coming off them really really slowly. I went down from 20mg a day to 10mg, then 10mg every other day for a couple of weeks, then every third day for a couple of weeks and so on. Eventually it got to a week between doses and it didn't seem worth taking it.

If you are feeling dizzy and anxious, you're coming off too quick. Try taking one tablet one day, then 1/2 a tablet the next, then one whole one the next and so on before you go to one tablet every other day. It does take a long time, but you have been on them a while and it will take your brain some time to get used to being without them.

I'm no dr, just talking from my experience. Hope this helps.
