After being on Simvastatin for 3 months I noticed that I had put on 1/2 stone in weight and my usual methods for keeping my weight down didn't work.
I mentioned it to the nurse at my review and she told me it wasn't the statin but just 'middle age spread'!
After a year on the drug I have put on a stone in weight and feeling fed up with this. My friend, who is a phamasist, says that weight gain is a common side effect of simvastatin but is not recorded by the drug company as a side effect.
I wonder if we can do a bit of research here, so please reply if you have also experienced this problem.
Hi Penny,
I am not on the tablets but my husband is and I would say that in the five or so years he's been on them that he has probably put on a couple of stones, also feeling very achy on them and I have suggested he see the dr about changing them to something different as he isn't the same as he was before he started taking them and always seems to have a health issue.
Hope you find some link with them and weight gain.
Jane

I asked/persuaded my doctor to change me onto Lipitor. It took about 2 months but then the weight started to come off. I convinced him to let me stay on it.
I have been taking Simvastin for 14 months and have had a similar unexplained weight gain
