Hi guys,7 days post op and it has probably been my best day, still knee and ankle swollen but not as painfull, rang hospital and they said it was normal,my main worry was when I got on scales and found I had gained 2kilos in a week, that has freaked me out a bit so I'm going to push myself next week to start my walks
I put a stone on in the 12 weeks I was off work...lost it now plus another stone! I had lots of chocolate brought by visitors and of course it would have been rude not to eat it!! Plus my partner cooking proper meals for me !!
Just keep an eye on it!!
Thanks crissy wissy I do watch what I eat that's why it was a shock,I was in hospital for 3days and all I eat was toast
I had great food in hospital ...thats what started it!!!
Lol I didn't have any appetite
hi crossy...was thinking of you.
how are your bowels? wt gain can be due to retained fluids plumping you up and involved with the swelling. still very important to keep drinking though!
good resolve to get walking. really glad you've had a good day at last.
any evacuation...? prune juice is highly rated... if you don't rate water, vit c and magnesium! but honestly there are some very expensive 'looseners' out there which contain vit c and magnesium in very high quantities...but maybe you've fund a way? suppositories are always an option so there's always that.
hope you continue to improve and have another good day tomo and the next day and the next!!!!!!! best wishes marey x
Oh yeah! Don't remind me...
u can start mall walking or give up cheese and replace it with chocolate..
CHEERS
That's the spirit ..gotta be polite and eat all the wonderful mood riser swings sugar errr chocolate brings. Best medicne there is....
CHEERS
Hi Crossy.
I lost my appetite for a few weeks, i was please for that as i've lost a little weight.
I was craving for oranges and lots of them. :-) ( still does )
Now 16 weeks in i cant stop eating, am now cutting back, now eating Fish, Chicken and Eggs with lots of veg and salads.
Walking will help as you'll be burning up some fat and strengthen those muscle.
Let us know how you're getting on with the weight loss.
7 days is very early, please that you're feeling better.
Thanks carmen il start walking next week when I feel stronger I'm feeling really tired at the minute due to lack of sleep
Thanks marey, always good to here from you, bowels are a problem , taking senna tablets maybe try the prune juice
You'll need a lot of rest also it's part of the healing prorgess.
Don't rush yourself your body will let you know when you're ready for your walks.
just focus on getting stronger and well.
As mention before it's very early day!
Wishing you good health and take it easy!
Thanks carmen good advice as always
Hello Crossy. Great to hear from you. Had big bowel prob too. My solution???? Had a couple of doses of lactulose in the evening in hospital but was reluctant to take anything much stronger for a few reasons! When I came home my friend brought me some Movicol sachets, I took a dose three times in the one day as directed. Nothing happened. Next morning early had a large mug of warm water, a glass of orange juice and a bowl of porridge and yippee. Also drinking loads of water now and, fingers crossed, seems ok. Glad the knee is not worrying you too much now. My tree trunk legs are not very pretty. I haven't been brave enough to weigh myself (enough disheartening things happening just now lol). Like you didn't eat much in hospital but maybe weight gain is inevitable due to fluid retention and bowel retention. I'm sure we will soon be able to do some exercise. In the meantime I am going to be nice to me for a bit although will probably avoid the choccies. Xx
Hi. Hippiechic I had that lactulose as well it's very sweet and had to drink glass of water along with it. Your probably right about fluid retention. So Il leave it for a while and let the swelling go down before I get on the scales again hope you keep improving and it's always nice to here from you
You too Crossy. Xx
Hi,
I am new to this group, having my op in 2weeks and already fighting my weight. I did wonder would your new joint be heavy ? if its metal, could that be part of the weight gain. Glad today was your best day and hope that your days just get better and better. After reading your replies I think I am going out to buy up the drug store's laxative counter !!!!!!!
Hi. Lorraine not sure about the weight of the new joint,I think it's probably the fluid retention and good luck for yours don't worry everything will be fine
Thanks, I am really glad I found this forum. So good to hear from all of you going through the same experience.
Hi Lorraine,,I put on about a stone in the 12 weeks I was off work following my THR..the surgeon did joke that the new hip weghed more...but not that much! Have lost it all now plus another stone..it really does make a difference! Good luck with your op...plenty of support and advice in here!
