Weight loss Dietitian

Hi,

Does anyone know a good weight loss clinic or dietitian in London? I am a 27 year old female. I had a sudden weight gain of 14 kg after going on Sertraline. I have now weaned off, and despite working out 5 times a week and a very restrictive diet, I am still unable to shift the weight.

I was wondering if any one has had positive experience in losing weight after ssris, and if so how did they achive this?

Also, it would be helpful to see a dietitian who is somewhat familiar with the weight challenges brought on by ssri.

Apparently weight gain can be a side effect of this type of medicine but just how long did it take to gain 14 kg? Working out will not work and you are more likely to hurt yourself. Talk to your Doctor please. The Doctor may be able to put you in touch with the community dietician for advice. You are not going to find a solution by asking for advice from other patients.

Hi homo dieticus,

I gained 14 kg over the course of 3 months (from April - June 2014) when the dose was increased from 25 mg daily to 50 mg. The sudden weight gain has actually caused knee problems for me, which I am getting treatment for. But since I don't fall into the Obese category and I am at the very low wnd of the overwight category, they just say diet - exercise should help. It is a bit frustrating as it seems I can only get help if I am obese and not if I am on my way to obesity!!! I have been refered to see a dietitian but my GP is quite bad with giving names of specialists and it is usually up to me to find a consultant online. That's why I thought I'd check and see if anyone here knows of a dietitian in London who also has experience of such cases.

Oh dear! It's about time some of these Doctors remembered that we are all shareholders in the NHS. My Doctor said that he has a single hours lecture on nutrition when he was training. The trouble with exercise advice is that it's OK for a healthy 25 yr old but not so great if you are injured or have any underlying health problems. I don't think that there is a magic wand unfortunately. My own magic formulae is this: Reflect on what are your shopping and eating habits. Like me, you might be a "grazer". Left to my own devices I would eat all day. Snacking is a serious problem, it is bad. If you can't buy a 150g bar of chocolate or a 200g bag of nuts without eating the lot in one go ( 850kcal and 1200 kcal) then don't buy them. Have you tried contacting the Community Dietician for advice? Or you could try the hospital pharmacist or even the drug manufacturer for advice.
