hi there this is my first post on this site
I am 10 days post op and am doing ok
doing the exercises etc and can see improvement everyday. (Hope this continues)
i have always tried to watch my weight and decided to get on the scales this morning only to see I weigh 4lbs more
I am eating a sensible diet , I understand my mobility is playing a part in not burning up the calories, but in 10 days this seems a lot
my leg is still very swollen post op could this be the reason I weigh more
I send encouragement to all of you out there recovering from tkr going through the pain and sleepless nights
this forum has been a great help to me so far
many thanks
Gill
Well done Gillingham we all need to stay positive that's for sure as we are all.on a journey some get there quicker than others,if you worried about putting weight on just drink more water I think that can only be a good thing for flushing the liver of all the Meds we keep taking plus you will feel more full other than that if you like snacking I suggest bananas really if you are getting improvement so early you gave nothing much to worry about I'm exactly 4 weeks and still icing and elevating trying to avoid to much walking but doing as much stretching as possible but sometimes the swelling slows that down I feel like I'm a little behind as I'm not past 90 degrees and it's a little worrying but if it's swelling up there's not much you can do but stay positive good luck too
I share your concerns - I'm 7 wks po, so the swelling isn't the issue for me, but the pounds are there. I'm not going to freak out about it because I know the strength exercises are not the same as aerobic calorie burners. You might try a water aerobics class after another week (make sure incision is sealed) it's great non-weight bearing and the resistance of the water helps the strengthening as well. As with any class you can make it as much or as easy as you need it to be. I always remember I lost the weight before, I can do it again! p.s. My appetite has increased too, maybe the pain was a suppressant.
Hi Gillian, I am 15 weeks post op and have put on about 8lbs. I know i nibbled when I felt down and ate the sweets and biscuits people brought me. I have stopped now and know I can get it off as I step up my exercises and physio.
You are very eary days and i at the moment would concentrate on getting better, increasing your strength and resting icing taking meds and elevating.
Best wishes. xx
Recovery is NOT a linear process...there will be ups and downs but the overall improvement should and will be positive. Start with your PT measurements...the goal down the road is 0-degrees straight and at least +120 bent. I started at -14 / +84. Takes work. Then you have to follow up with exercises to strengthen all your leg muscles to support the new knee. This is a long term commitment. Have fun...
Try increasing your water intake. I know this sounds a little non productive as you already are packing a little on but proper hydration flushes the system. Don't be overly concerned as your system is still fouled up from meds, anaesthesia, poor ci tr cukation plus anxiety and pain. Just be sensible in all you do and you'll be o.k. one of the real negative aspects, sleep interruption creating a need for that middle of The night snack
