Weight

Just out of interest - does any one know how much ceramic hip replacement parts weigh? I'm a weightwatcher, and although my leg is still swollen which accounts for weight change, I wonder whether I would be lighter or heavier now with my new parts. I'm hoping to go back to class as soon as I can

Hi Jools

I have read somewhere it's about 2lbs. If I could say 2 sts is accounted for by bionic parts I'd feel a lot happier 😆😂😂

Hi jools

I can tell you that the whole implant weights 148 grams . I have both done . They are very light. Regards michael

I put on 7kg of fluid when i had my 2 anterior hip replacements . Once i went home after6 days i lost all excess fluid and i ended up 2 kgs lighter rhan when i went to hospital.

Regards Michael

Definitely 2 stone - each!!

That definitely sounds right! I am heavier now, (day 9) but I can see the leg is swollen, probably as far as the knee, and I have a weird 'table leg' thing going on at the bottom, with a tiny end of the shin and a very swollen ankle! Absolutely multi - coloured bruising everywhere too!

Yes definitely 2 Sts. I can say that on the scales! Although, weirdly my appetite is tiny - maybe major surgery is the answer!  Don't want to get complacent though, as I'm normally dashing about on 12 hour shifts and actually hardly ever mange to eat at work, so I am going to have to watch what I get up to when I'm home

alone!

Aww, 148 grams sounds tiny!  Of course I went home after 2 1/2 days, so the fluid has come home with me! I can't imagine having both done together, although I have had posterior approach with rather a large wound which I wouldn't want on both sides at the same time, plus the restrictions they give you.

Metal parts around 3 pounds

Sadly I was told that 'the bits' weigh just about the same as the bone that they cut off the top, so there is almost no weight gain or reduction. Wouldn't it be nice if we could blame our weight on the THR

I think you are right Chloeparrot .... what else could have caused this abnormal weight gain ???

Hi Jools,

Do you mean that you are doing the weight watchers program?  I like it - healthy food etc ...

please remember that the scale will show weight gain due to swelling, retaining fluid and also medication ,,,

and that is okay, okay ,,,,

big warm hug

renee

Weights more than what was cut off. The stem, ball and cup.

Perhaps I have 'heavy' bones

oooo like me 😂😂😂

Renee,

I think we all forget that - weight gain due to swelling, retaining fluid and medication, as you say, that is okay.

I can hardly believe it will be 2 years at the end of this month since my original botched THR.

Best wishes to you.

Graham & Liz

Well I am a big chap 🏋, so big bones 😂😂😂

an update Renee, yes I go to a local slimming group and had very successful 2.5 stone weight loss over about a year, although I had put a little back on in the last few weeks pre - surgery due to inactivity and not actually want to be bothered as I was in so much pain. So saw physio today, and she told me I was very swollen over the hip to the side. Oh my gosh, my hubby took a pic from the back. my bottom is absolutely enormous over the left!! It looks like it belongs to someone else and I can't believe I've been dragging it along not even knowing it was there! No wonder i'm heavier

 LOL ... oh Jools ... quite a shock, right ... goodness ...

I have one on either side (2 THR's)and slowly start to accept that this is what is right now ...

so be kind and gentle to the new hip --

angel blessings
