Weird feeling in my upper left abdomen

Hi guys, so recently I took a trip to the hospital cause I had a pain in my chest like someone was sitting on it for a few days in a row. Everything was fine with my heart and the doctor said my lungs are clear. He told he it could be anxiety and thought it was since I was dealing with anxiety last year. I went home and the pain had gone cause I was no longer worrying but recently I’ve had a pain in my upper left abdomen, the pain is coming from the side of my body. Not a pain more like a sharp stabbing. It doesn’t hurt it’s just irritating and sometimes it spikes where it gets stronger then goes back to where I can barley even feel it. This feeling has come out of no where, I am worried about what it could be but I do not want to make another hospital trip to be wasting peoples time. I’m 21 and healthy, smoke less than 2-3 cigs a week and only on Fridays. Thank you for taking you’re time to read this, I appreciate your reply’s.

Also, the feeling does not move. It has been in the same spot for 3 days.

I have had that feeling went away after a few days never found out if it was more than anxiety but I have read other people feeling that same thing.

Could be gas, could be the way you are laying, recently I’ve had pain in my stomach not sure what is it but comes and goes here and there, I would just keep your mind off of it, thinking about pain can actually cause it. The mind is very powerful. Hang in there (:

Love smoking isn't good but definitely don't to the er it's a waste of time your fine.. it's anxiety.. I had pain in my chest all day yesterday then I woke up felt fine then I had that same pain that u have and it comes and goes. Anxiety causes aches and pains literally Everywhere. I have physical anxiety baddd everyday it's a new pain in a new spot. Ribs stomach chest upper back shoulders arms legs hands head face and lower back .. it's gotten to a point where I don't even worry anymore. So relax you will be ok and I'm 22 btw so we both are healthy and young .. try not to worry yourself too much.. feel better ❤️

Could be gastritis (irritated stomach lining) or acid reflux. I've been dealing with this for a week, and it can get quite painful. I'm finally starting to get better after 4 days of Nexium.

Here's something you could try. When you feel the pain, take a couple of Pepto Bismol tablets (or liquid). If the pain goes away in about a half hour or so, that's a good indication that it's gastritis or acid reflux.

I should mention the Pepto is only temporary. That's just how I tell it's gastritis. It coats the stomach and helps stop the pain, but it will come back. So you would need to either need to change your diet, or take a ppi.

You sound like you suffer anxiety and associated stress, you confirmed above you felt fine after the hospital said you were suffering from Stress/Anxiety

If you are not sure regard your pain on your left hand side talk to your GP, sometimes pains in that area can just go away if you have eaten something or had a viral infection. Talk t your GP and accept His diagnosis. However remember with Anxiety you will need to learn how to control your fears. A course of CBT may help you come to grips of your fears and concerns. You are on a sticky slope I hoe you understand that and learn how to control your Anxiety

Thank you for your reply. Yeah after the hospital I was fine, the chest tightness went away and I was back to normal and then this new pain on my left hand side came out of no where. I am going to go and see my GP tomorrow.

Good Luck, however it does sound like it is your Anxiety

Can anxiety just make up a new pain in a new part of the body just like that? It’s crazy to think this is just anxiety.

Your body seems to become sensitised, and that can affect body sensations and presents as pain.

If you have been ill sometimes Anxiety can do the same thing. In most cases, yes you have a health problem Stress and Anxiety. You can get help although it is the patient that needs to be able to control their Anxiety with the help of health professionals.

If you have various tests you will need to understand you are well and move on, onward and upward comes to mind. We all need to be able to control our fears and move on through life. Personally I feel this condition can become so much more problematic as people get older. We need to take on responsibilities for our own fears as our health becomes more problematic

I’ve decided to call off a trip to my GP. I woke up this morning and the pain had gone and a new on it’s one place. Now I know for certain it’s anxiety.

PPI's have been found to make matters worse and only meant to be prescribed on a short term basis. They stop essential nutrients being absorbed causing nutritional problems such as anaemia B12 deficiency etc , etc as my endo told me!!!.

Can affect the heart as well.

I usually take a quarter of a teaspoonful of bicarbonate of soda in a half glass of water.

If the pain persists then the dr needs to know really. Never assume that everything is anxiety based but sometimes pain causes anxiety. I Had a similar pain and my endo said it is due to a low vitamin D level or inflammation of the muscles.

I took paraetamol, heat pad to the area and rest. muscle. This can be quite painful.

Hi again I think the term for this type of pain is osteochondria. Painful but not serious. I am sure your dr can help.

Hi again Just seen your reply re GP visit. I would suggest that you keep a diary of these pains etc and then approach your dr so he or she gets a full picture. Have you had any antibiotics at all may I ask? SSRIs such as Prozac contain fluoride which causes pain .

Thanks.

I'm 18 female. I, for the last 9 months have had similar experiences. As of 9 months ago I was diagnosed with severe generalized anxiety, and health paranoia. I had so many scary things happening to me and o e of them i noticed was the upper left stomach pain. At first I didn't think it was my stomach, more so my throat and back. Maybe a little spasm but as time went on the symptoms changed. The only way I can describe the sensation is a hollow empty stomach and a giant rock in my upper area. It's like a tensing squeezing pressure and it's so uncomfortable. It went on and off for months some weeks it was severe others it was momentarily and to this day continues on and off. The only thing nobody else I read about has said they felt is nausea. I get this wave of nauseawhen the sensation happens and it makes my stomach ache. It makes the upper stomach discomfort twice as bad and it's a really gross feeling. If you habe ever taken zinc on an empty stomach that's exactly the feeling. I noticed that when I improved my diet the feelings ceased and when o got sick they would get severe. I hope to one day figure out if it is a symptom of anxiety or an actual stomach issue because it can be horrible whilst trying to cope with health paranoia and co Stanton overthinking my symptoms. Glad to know others experience weird stomach pains too.
