Hello, I have been wanting to ask this for a while but its a little embarrassing so I held off...until now!
I am a 24 year old man, and I experience occasional itchiness in the genital area, but I never really thought much of it. I always though it was normal and it has never been too much of an issue since I shower regularly and keep my pubic hair shaved. For some unknown reason, I recently tried to scratch an itch in that area by scraping the skin with a slightly dull scissor blade. Upon doing so, I noticed a white powder-like substance on the blade *(picture below)*. Turns out this substance builds up over the day, and can be scraped off of almost my entire genital area including the penis shaft, scrotum, and the area of skin above the genitals (haven't tried the head of the penis, I'm not that crazy). It has the exact same consistency as baby powder, but can't be that since I don't use it. If I scratch/rub the skin in that area with my fingers, I can rub my fingers together and this substance will roll up/collect similar to the way glue or mucus does as it dries. I'm assuming it is a build-up of dead skin cells, that's what it looks like, but I'm not sure. I know jock itch is common, but I have never experienced any redness or rash of any sort.
My question is, is this normal? Could it be something fungal, or perhaps a natural anti-chafing method of the body? Should I just leave it or attempt to treat it? If the latter, what are the methods of treatment?
Sorry you had to read that, thanks in advance for any explanations!
