Weird throat and chest feeling -anxiety

So for two days I’ve experience this weird feeling that is so hard to explain. Sometimes I feel like my chest is a bit tight and I feel out of breath. I feel I’m getting air but for some reason I feel like the breaths are shallow which make my throat feel weird kind of like a bit of a choking sensation . But I know I’m taking breaths. I’m 19 and I’ve suffered from severe anxiety for years and I always get physical symptoms . This one is scaring me and is uncomfortable especially bc it’s hard to explain. I find it to feel a bit worse st night and sometimes I find myself waking up gasping for air... anyone else ?

Sorry to hear you're suffering with your anxiety at the moment, it's really the worse. I've not had this one myself with the shallow breaths but I've read plenty who have. I have had the sensation of a tight throat many times though and feeling like I'm not swallowing properly or something is stuck.

I often have throat symptoms and sometimes feel my chest is right. Feel like I can breathe in deeply but not empty my lungs properly.  And yes, I have woken at night and am gasping for air. It’s a horrible feeling.

This is a very common and "normal" symptom of anxiety, don't worry. It def feels scary but you are fine and you won't stop breathing/choke, etc.

I've had a lot of chest tightness and chest pain issues with my anxiety. Sometimes it was so painful I couldn't even laugh bc it hurt so much. I worried I had heart issues or something and went to Dr but nope just anxiety.

I've also had the lump in the throat feeling from anxiety. That symptom lasted for a while and was sooo annoying and uncomfortable. I felt like my throat was closing all the time or like food was stuck in my throat, but nope just anxiety! lol

I haven't had the waking up for air, but one of my best friends with anxiety has had this. She would go to bed and wake up in the middle of night frantic and feeling like she couldn't breathe. She coped with this by taking a xanax before bed and also meditating before bed. After a week or 2 of that it slowly went away and she doesn't get it anymore. She still meditates though on occasion.
