After switching from this to try an SSRI it is with some welcome i am am coming back to venlefaxine. I had mixed success with Ven over 10 years or so but wanted to try something else to see if could achieve better results. However after trying both Prozac and Citalopram and suffering horrendous side effects my doc has recommended coming back to Ven and managing my depression based around this. I had no issues first time round starting on it and here's hoping coming off the SSRI and tapering on Ven all goes well!
I too am back on ven. I am still on another AD as well. I also had mixed success with it, still getting a bout of depression whilst on it so the doctor tried something else. Ven has got me out of bouts before so I'm hoping it will this time. What AD are you tapering down off. Are you going to be taking ven at the same time? What dosage are you starting on?
That is so so sad but have you ever suffered from depression. It is a chemical imbalance in the brain and sometimes we have to take medication to help us.
Sorry Amy but I took Ven for 10 years. I only took 75 mg and never had any problems. Every now and again I would come off them without any bother. Certainly not addictive. Unfortunately they stopped working for me. I know plenty of people who take them and it has got them back to their normal selves, I do wonder Amy if you have ever had depression because most times only medication will heelp.
On citalipram 20mg, tapering down 10mg per day for two weeks then then 10mg every other day for. Two weeks then stop. Starting 75mg ven xr alongside it
I hope the ven helps you.
What other ad is it your on?
I'm on mirtazapine.
how long been on the Venlefaxine for also?
This time round about 2 months. Mines a long story though!
Yes mine is another vote in favour of venlafaxine. It saved my life and sanity after
Seroxat stopped working. I also take mirtazapine. I know from experience that
sometimes depression is so bad you need antidepressants to take the edge off,
allowing you to cope and get your life back on track. Only then are you able to consider other ways to manage how you feel. I found CBT useful, but in conjunction with the medication. I found my doctors did know what they were doing - they listened and really cared. Try not to listen to the scare stories. Venlafaxine doesn't suit some people but you know you're ok on it. Give it a go. The way I look at it - diabetics
need insulin and those of us with chemical imbalance in their brains need medication. Why not?
I'm on ven and mirtz. What's your dosage?
225mg venlafaxine and 30mg mirtazapine. Been taking them for several
years and happy with them.
