My Dr app today went very well she listened to me and I showed her all the supplements I was taking which are vitamin D,iron by choice, multivitamin, she told me to try the gabapentin that psychiatrist prescribed and not stop if I feel alittle strange I also asked if I could take 250mg of magnesium she told me yes. Also she said I am going through the change and hormones and anxiety is what I'm dealing with. And that unfortunately she can't prescribe hormones to me as I'm still making hormones of my own even though they are fluctuating. Because it increases the cancer risk and I don't want that. She also said my heart is fine sounds good and strong and my labs is normal and my EKGs are too. But she did say it was going to be a very rough road to get through this time of life and she thinks the symptoms is a mixture of both hormones and anxiety
Pamela, I'm glad your doctor vist was a successful one! She sounds like a very compassionate doctore and that's awesome!!
Can you take anxiety meds? Did she suggest that?
Question: What's gabapentin? Just curious.
My psychiatrist that I saw a few weeks ago prescribed gabapentin to me it's a anti seizure medication that they also use for anxiety. My Dr today told me to go ahead and try it as ive been scared to try it I'm very sensitive to antidepressants. I've tried many and most didn't help or agree with me.
You sound like you have a wonderful Doctor. Im post menapausal now and yes its an interesting experience going thru peri. You should orobably peak at the menapause forum youll see anxiety and peri overlap but there are other symptoms truely hormonal but everyone's different. I hope you listen to her advice.
Thank you I'll read and scroll on that forum as well as this one and yes it's def an experience I'll never ever forget, there is some very scary hard core symptoms with this change of life that they call normal it sure don't feel normal at all.
Have you tried the gabapentin yet? I am very sensitive to meds also. My doctor thought this would be a good pill because it helps with restless leg syndrome and trouble with nerve endings as well as anxiety. I have a resident on 1,600 mg daily. My grandmother takes 900 mg daily. So, I thought I should be good to try 100 mg. I slept most of the night but woke up all jittery. I couldn't seem to get rid of the shakes. So, I opted not to try another. I think for the most part 100 mg is a very low dose that most people can tolerate. I unfortunately am not one of them.
I haven't tried it yet I'm very scared to try it I've had some very scary side effects in the past on trying meds. My starting does is 300mg to me that's high and after five days increase to twice a day then after five more days three times a day so all together will be 900mg
Do they come in 100 mg capsules? If so, I'd try that to start. My doctor starting me at 100 mg a night for a week and then increase the dosage to 300 mg and then to 600 mg. Sadly, I only took one (100 mg) capsule.
But, if you're scared to take the 300 mg then start at a lower dose.
Le me know how you make out! Most people can take a low dose of this med easily and gradually increase it. Me? I always said I am on this earth as a scientific project, lol.
Good luck!!!!
No these are 300mg capsules can't cut in half or anything I called yesterday to psychiatrist office with my concerns nobody called back yet. Seen my regular dr yesterday she said try it I want too I'm just so scared last month I tried zoloft thought it was going to kill me.
They all say TRY IT! Lol. They don't all have anxiety issues. Tell her to call in 100 mg or you're not trying it. You have anxiety so anything makes you anxious. Tell her you're over sensitive to meds and to please accommodate your wishes. That's really not much to ask.
I really hope this works out for you! Go with your gut feeling always!
Thank you Kelly I'm actually not real comfortable trying this I guess what really spooked me was the pharmacist said you have seizures and I said no I have anxiety he said it's rarely used for that should call and make sure you should take that. And that made it all worse
It is used more and more for anxiety. So, that I know to be true. But, please only take this by starting at 100 mg. If you have true anxiety you'll take the 300 mg and make the anxiety worse wondering about the side effects. Save yourself that agony
