Went for CT scan and didn't get one

Hi ladies, would be interested to hear your opinions.  Had my ultra sound a few weeks ago which revealed a 5 x 2 cm 'thing' on my ovary.  Went this am for what I thought was a CT scan, however, just met the consultant.  He told me I had a 'mass' on my ovary, and they didn't like 'masses'.  he took a medical history and gave me a quick abdominal exam.  He said he was going to recommend removal of said ovary but he was not concerned because it was only small and my bloods were normal.  I ppointed out bloods were six weeks ago!  He said he believed it was a dermoid cyst and that he would refer me to another colleague and they would think about whether to do an MRI or whether to go right to surgery.  I said I didn't want any further delays and I wanted surgery asap. I know that docs can't really say what this is until it is out and they do pathology but I do feel a lot better about things now than i did last night!

Hi Kellers,

I know this is easier said than done, but try not to panic, dermoid cysts are quite common, I had one years ago which led to an operation. From ultrasound trooper action was two weeks

can I ask how old you are? Certain blood tests are irrelevant if you are premenopausal. Also wanted to quickly say I didn't have an MRI scan prior to my dermoid cyst removal. Hopefully you will be seen to soon.

good luck

Hi, I am 50 and in menopausal (well I have not had a period for months and have lot of nice hot flushes so assume I am).  I was thinking the worst before this morning so glad they think its a cyst and not a cancer but was wondering if they needed to do an mri or not.  Glad you say they can go straight to op.  He said would be able to do it keyhole and I would not even be in overnight - is that right?

Keyhole is very simple and many do go home same day, I admit I didn't but that was due to the general anaesthetic rather than the proceedure. X
