But I am a bit lost right now, mainly because I'm not sure who I got this from? I know this could of been from anyone because you can get this even with protection. I am correctly dating someone who I really like, but I think he MAY be the one who exposed me to this--soley bc we had unprotected sex the first time 2 weeks ago(so stupid I know, but we've been using protection since.) and the last time I had unprotected sex was 8 months ago with my then boyfriend. I'm conflicted, do I just flat out say hey I think you gave me this life long virus, or what if it wasnt even him? I'm just so confused right now
You need to see if he is experiencing symptoms. Look for symptoms like yours or other ones pertinent to HSV around his private parts. The next time you have sex or do anything sexual, just have a look around.
you can also ask him (since you're new to each other), if he has had any sexual diseases, etc.
Just start the conversation: "hey can I ask you an honest question?" "yeah sure go ahead." "have you ever been tested for any std's or sti's?"... you can later find a way to ask him about herpes.

You could simply ask him to get tested. If the last time you had sex was 8 months ago I highly doubt that's the cause of your current symptoms. Usually people who initially contract the virus show symptoms anywhere from 2-20 days later if I'm not mistaken. In addition to he could not be showing symptoms but is shedding the virus especially if it's type 2. You could ask if he's ever had an cold sores or indirectly ask if he occasionally gets blisters/pimples around his mouth maybe canker sores inside the mouth. Take my advice with a grain of salt I don't have too much experience.

Go back and get the herpes IgG test done soon. Positive swab + negative IgG = new infection. Do not confuse the IgG test with IgM (different test and not reliable or recommended as a result).
