I have had the hospital on the phone today, they have cancelled my pre-assessment from the 10th June and made it for TOMORROW. My consultant has put me in for my op next week. I asked about the physio checks on the 24th June and she said that didn't matter they would it after my op.
I am in a panic now as we also have a holiday on the Norfolk Broads booked for 4 days from the 16th June. Don't want to cancel, I was wondering if anyone had any advice, would I be able to to get on a boat 3 weeks post op? the alternative is to change the dates and have the holiday later.
Hello Gill I would change the trip. My surgeon gave me a 6 week window and told me not to make plans I was then given 24 hours notice after 4 weeks. I am now 8 weeks post op with a trip booked on June 10 and so glad to be going pain free
That is what happened to me 4 weeks ago. they booked me for june then they got me in in April instead. It is a shock to the system when they do that. I had my assesment the wednesday before and got me in the ward the day before my op.
I would say for the sake of your holiday cancle and have it later. Better safe than sorry. Your op will be out of the way and you will be more aware of what you can and can't dol. Plus there will be more chance of slipping and causing more problems in the early stages. Leaving it till later you will be able to enjoy it more and it will give you something to look forward too. If you go in the early healing process you might end up with an infection.
Sorty , but no way will you be able to or feel like getting on a boat let alone living on one for a few days . You would be much better staying at home with all your aids and comforts .
Thanks for that, we have contacted the booking place and they are quite happy to defer the holiday but not to refund, so yes by September I should be better good to go as they say
Does the boat have steps or lift? Will you be able to sit on a very low loo ? Then be able to get up from the loo? You will have more fun later.
I went on a bus trip at five months and it was a night mare. We went just under 4000miles.walked 3 to,6 miles a day.lots of steps.I had to do one step at a time first with the good leg the op leg. That was in Washington D.C..The Jefferson memorial had 62 wet marble steps so did the Lincoln memorial. I wished I had waited longer. The problem the trip itinery did not say anything about all the waking or steps.best to you.
I went to Cornwall 5 weeks post op and wish I'd waited....so tired and
I was still on crutches as I couldn't weight bear...the up side was I had access to a warm pool and sauna and my physio gave me exercises to do in the water.....I'd delay your trip till you can really enjoy it....I did fly to Spain after 14 weeks and that was great!
Hi gillcat, you are ging to be so limited on that time frame and you will be experiencing a certain amount of pain. I'm not sure if it really would be something that would be permitted by your dr. But I would advise you that you postpone you trip for when you will be more mobile and able to enjoy it. I am 5 weeks post op and I can tell you I'm just starting to be able to function a little better with a cane. I still have pain, some days better than others but still popping a pain pill at the end of the day. Good luck with your surgery!
No way are you going to feel like having a holiday that soon. It would be a total waste of money since you will be in no shape to enjoy yourself. You should have about 3 months under your belt before a holiday
Whoa ... you made the right decision to postpone your holiday !!! good luck today and make notes, ask questions - you are well preparded, I think, with the help of all fellow hippies here ....
