Hi, I’m here to discuss my father’s eye issue. He is 60 and now he is leading the retirement life. From the previous few days, he had some issues with the vision. I just examined his eyes, and I saw a white scum covered in his eyes. So I called my friend he is an optometry student. He told me it is the starting stage of Cataract. So we planned to consult an eye specialist. Please share your suggestion, which will be really helpful.
It may depend on the country you are from, but the normal practice in Canada is to see an optometrist to have the eyes checked. A cataract is a cloudy growth in the lens of the eye. It blurs vision and can cause double vision. The growth of the cataract can change the shape of the lens causing astigmatism or a change in the eyeglass prescription. If it is bad you may see it by just looking into the eyes, but the optometrist will use a slit lamp to do a thorough examination. If the cataract is bad they will refer you to a eye surgeon.

The only treatment that I am aware of is removal of the natural lens and replacing it with an artificial lens (IOL) - cataract surgery. It is one of the most common surgeries done in North America.

If the cataract is not real bad, then the eyeglass prescription may be changed to try and correct for it some. This is mainly to buy some time while waiting for surgery.
