What can i do to prevent breaking out every month...?

I was diagnosed about 6 months ago that I had genital herpes, I didn't think it was shocked, scared, worried, all kinds of emotional, I've only ever had 2 partners, how could this be. But ever since then I've had 4 breakouts... and I'm already to the point that I can't take it anymore. It affects me on so many levels then because I get ten times more emotional then usual and stress out even more and make it worse. My last one was so bad they have me on Acyclovir 800mg 3times a day for 2 days.. Can anyone tell me what i can do to help avoid these breakouts practically every month..? and it seems like they're getting worse faster each time. Once a breakout starts I get extremely light headed and very weak to the point I can't do anything but sit or lay down, not sure if it's supposed to be this bad... any info would help, I've looked on every site there is about genital herpes, but nothing compares to hearing it come from someone who experiences it too. Thanks in advance!!

I was diagnosed in August after catching it off my new partner. He gets no symptoms and didn't know he had it whereas I had three outbreaks in one month.

I went onto a suppressive dose of aciclovir I now take 400mg twice a day and will do for a year.

Best. Decision. Ever

I've not had an outbreak since. I would fully recommend at this early stage of your life with herpes. Most of the time I don't even think about herpes anymore. Yay :D

wow. i might have to talk to my doctor about that, they have me on 800mg 3 times a day for only 2 days once i start to notice my breakout. so i'll definitely look into that!! Thanks!!

I was breaking out once a month as well & my stress level was not helping a bit either. I was taking Acyclovir, but was told by someone that they took Valacyclovir once a day/ every day. I switched and I have only had a couple of very minor outbreaks in a 5 month time span. You might give it a try. Good luck!! Oh , you might try taking the vitamin suppliment L-Lysine during your outbreaks too. It boosts your immune system & helps you heal faster.
