What caused your fibro?

Hey everyone

I hope you have managed to have an easy weekend.

As the title suggests I was just curious to see what reasons people have been given for the appearance of their fibromyalgia.

Mine started about 2.5 years ago. I had nasty accident which involved me having a fall. I ruptured two ligaments in my ankle, injured my shoulder and neck.

3-4 months later I developed more widespread pain and severe stabbing pains in my shoulders, hips and knees. I also had restless legs and random twitching over my body. Then came the migraines, insomnia and exhaustion.

I was told recently by my rheumatologist that my fall caused my fibromyalgia. I can't believe I have this horrendous illness for life because of a fall!

Hi Hun

I think mine stems from the trauma of 7 miscarriages then finally I gave birth to my son coast in 2014 and so the pain began !

Hi I find it to deal with this as mines was caused by a side effect of acne medication called roaccuante. It's been a horrible 3 years between fighting to get the dermatologists to admit(which is still on going). Dealing with depression from that and the onset of fibro.

Xxxx😘

So sorry to hear what you went through, and now fibromyalgia sad

Best wishes xxx

So worrying to hear that medication can cause fibromyalgia too.

I really can't believe there isn't more research out there into what causes fibro or even an effective treatment!

I hope you get somewhere with your specialist.

Here hoping I hate it more when people say "your on 24 u shouldn't be that sick". Ik just dreading the day I find out I have to carry a baby. Me and my otter both want a child but the thought of this pain and trying do carry a baby scares me.

Thanks for u kind words. Xxxx

Thanks Hun xx it was a terrible time xx

Actually to be truthful I had FM before it had a name. I hurt all over in my joints and muscles. As reciently as 2002 after being diagnosed with FM there was still very little medical help available.

Now there are many ways to treat FM. A good rheumy is a good start as they now have a better understanding of the many causes for FM.

After  many years I learned the catch phrase for all the symptoms for the pain finally had a name ,FM.

Everyone responds differently to different types of treatments. A good rheumy has a better understanding of FM. There  are some good meds to help with treatment now than ever before. DEMARDS & bio drugs

Also chronic illness can take a toll on our spirits.  Also anti depressants helped a great deal. I found to maintain a good attitude also helped me feel better.

I have done well with OTC meds after trying several prescription drugs for fibro that made me sick. I am very sensitive to meds.

I do phisio exercises, for strenghing core and body muscles. Eat fresh foods no sugars, fried or refined foods and massage treatments really helps me the most. Drink lots of water.

I hope you find the treatment to help you the most. It takes time and patience to stick with a good program.

I know exactly what you mean. Age has nothing to do with it.

I had the same pressures from friends who continued to be skeptical .

Now that they have some type of unseen illness they get it.

Just because the pain doesn't show doesn't mean your body isn't racked with pain and mind fog.

So sorry Sadie. You have been thru so much. Congrats on your baby boy. So precious and gives so much happiness. He's just 2 what a cute age .

FM can be managed. Have you seen someone in a pain clinc. They're experts at helping with many chronic diseases as well as helping with many techniques that can help you feel better, eat better & sleep better.

good Luck.

Thanks Hun xx I do have 3 boys 16,12 and 1 they are a handful lol I am currently on lots of meds to help with pain etc hoping to try hydrotherapy xx

I think mine was brought on by stress and trauma, emotional and mental, really messed up stuff, but because I think this I'm hoping that it will one day go as well.

Good to hear you are managing your pain issues. The kids will keep you busy.

hydrotherapy is great, mwith a family remember to take time for breaks and rest.

Stay happy and well it will bring you heeling.

Hi ChronicGirl

Mine was caused by an accident at work 2 years ago. A box weighing 26kgs was dropped on my head. I suffered severe whiplash then about 2 months after the accident I started getting pains in my arms and legs then eventually all over my body along with all the other symptoms that go with it. I got diagnosed in February this year by rheumatologist X

Hmmm this is a good question, can't wait to see everyone's responses.

For me I'm not 100% sure but mine happened 9 months ish after having a baby but also a few months after breaking my nose, started off generally just feeling tired in the evening, then also in the day and facial pain/numbness on the left side with extreme head pressure and the pain just generally spread out to my neck and then my arms and slowly every body part became involved. Initially I was treated with steroid sprays for sinusitis along with vitamins as I'd become folic acid, iron and vit d deficient too but continued to get worse, whether the deficiencies caused it or was a result of not being well That I got them I don't know. the day prior to a bad day it starts in my face, head, neck, shoulders and then every muscle in my body along with joints hurts.

I was also drinking about 15 cups of tea a day so I do wonder if the caffeine kicked things off too.

Im not sure if pregnancy kicks of an autoimmune disease, if your hormones become messed up or if it's something else entirely. I felt perfectly well during my pregnancy and had no health issues before that.

My Fibro was caused by four unexplained miscarriages, an Aspergic husband whom I walked out on twenty weeks pregnant and with my two and a half year old son. I think through  the stress this caused I got Fibro ten years ago. I now  do not eat gluten, juice vegetables and fruit. Eat a healthy diet and have Epsom salt baths .  I am also recovering from shoulder surgery which has been a real challenge as I am fighting for my Two year PIPS award to be reinstated. So all these things no money coming in, suffering with Fibro and a sore weak shoulder have made the Fibro worse.

I've no idea if I have it but so many people on here think I do. My GP won't refer me. I slipped a disc 4 months ago, they sent for an MRI which picked up a ovarian cyst for which I was told might be cancerous. Just got the all clear but left with these awful symptoms. Doc thinks my body has gone into shock after emotions and physical trauma and affecting my nervous system. She happily put me on two gabapentin three times a day and tramacet but will not refer me. I'm gutted!! Was supposed to begin a degree in nursing this year but not looking hopeful now. Just wish I could afford to go private but as I've not worked for the last few months, I have no money sad

So glad of people's support on here 😊

Best wishes

Vicky 💗

I had sore shoulder turned out to be collagen build up, ended up frozen shoulder from an injury and OA. After a cat scan the dr did Xiaflex injections to the shoulder to break down the collagen that locked the shoulder up. Thru therapy I now have full use of my shoulder and manageable pain with OTC meds.

X rays were the first start to unraveling my shoulder pain. It takes time to heel whatever the issue may be in your case. It could be arthritis especially in joints.

hope you make it theu the system soon for pip.

Vicky so many things can pile up on us. Don't give in, go for that nursing degree. Once in school you will have health insurance. My niece did the same thing and she was so glad she did. She had a cyst removed and knee surgery. Yet made it thru all her studies, labs and divorced with 2 kids. She is now a registered nurse and well on her way to a better future.

I say go for it!

((( hugs )))
