Had a very inflamed big toe on my right foot, very red, swollen and shiny.suspected gout had blood test not gout.Doctor prescribed anti inflammatory and works. This started 3 years ago and 6 months can go by without an attack.Am experiencing an attack now in my left big toe but it usually occurs in my right heel.Am taking Diclofenac Sodium 50mg these work well only have to take for 1-2 days and symptoms disappear but this time have been taking for 4 days relieved pain and swelling but is still there. My doctor has no idea what the problem is,would be interested to know if anyone has experienced the same thing.
Yes you can have gout and blood tests can show no elevation in uric acid levels.
Probably gout, I didn't know what it was when I first had it. For the first 6 months I just suffered in pain and then it went away. Then I got it again and it was worse. Don't wait until you have kidney problems and cripling gout pain, learn what the gout diet is and stick to it. You probably need a doctor for meds. But don't stop there, screen what you eat. You need to become more alkaline than acidic. I used tart cherry juice, alkaline water ( made by cutting a lemon in 8 pieces and just letting it set overnight in 2 qts of water, don't squeeze the lemon ), Phresh Greens powder - 1 tsp. in a glass of water, apple cyder vinagar, and all the Vegetables and Fruit you want. Stay away from beef especially hamburg. Stop eating hotdogs and sausage. HFCS is a big culprit and sugar is also something that causes acid. Sometimes you'll find conflicting reports of bad food for gout. Just do the best you can. It is a lifestyle change for healthy foods that you need to be focused on now.
I've been suffering for 5 years now and I'm just getting better with these changes. I'm not on any meds. now and I'm feeling better every day. Losing weight, and eating better all the time. For a long time I thoutht I'd never get better. But it takes time to make your body more alkaline. You should exercise even if it is just an hour walk 6 days a week. I eat an apple or orange every day and cut out all candy, soda and beer. But I still have a few cookeis now and cake or pie occationally. I'm gradually eating meats again, but not too much and mostly chicken and fish now. Portion sizes of meat is less than my palm size for the meat now that I have the gout in check. Sugar turns to acid witch your kidney is having trouble excreeting from your body. Hope this helps, Good Luck
Good luck
The doctor decided to put me on Allopurinol even though blood tests were negative and up to now I have had no problems
I had negative blood tests and red swollen toe but doctor put me on allopurinal anyway and up to now have had no problems. The trigger for me was orange juice.
It is better to take medication when the attack arrives, than taking allopurinol over long periods, which require periodical liver function tests. Which prompts the question what harm are they doing to require these tests.
I quit drinking OJ and started eating an orange every other evening for desert instead. There is way less sugar, try the cara cara variety it's delicious. Glad to hear your problems are under control.
