I'm taking acilivor tablets but need a soothing cream as I'm in agony, what can I use and preferably other the counter so I can but it?
All you can do is apply any cream with acyclovir and take ibuprofen which will relieve a bit of swelling and pain. Maybe up your dose of tablets for a few days. There is no quick fix unfortunately
There is some cream called lidocaine that you can buy over the counter it numbs the pain and you can put tea tree oil on to help dry the sores out x
Is neat tea tree safe to use in that area?
I agree to a point with the other responses. However, on another chat link, anna50 has recommended a cream called Viradux-AU. I have not yet used it myself but was sufficiently impressed with her her view that I have ordered some to give it a go.
How can I get this cream?
Here in Europe we have Zovirax. Just go to any chemist and ask for a cream with acyclovir in it - normally a 5% cream.
Best to get a brand name - I find cheaper generics not as effective. You can find many online also
I strongly advise against using anything other than this cream - like the Tea tree oil suggested - because anything like that can rupture a blister which contains the virus and can spread it and make it a lot worse
I read online people using everything from Bleach to Lemon Juice - these are all a very bad ideas and can also cause scarring
I do use Tea tree oil myself to dry out the occasional pimple BUT never for herpes
For anyone with cold sores I can not stress enough how effective Virulite is !
For all herpes I have been informed that a shingles Vaccine can be effective.
I used neat tea tree but it was quite strong so maybe dilute it a little witch hazel is good to use aswell x
For the Viradux-AU go on-line. First have a read of anna50's comments that you will find against one of the earlier chats on this subject.
Can I get this cream from a UK website as I postage is too dear from the USA, Any ideas pls guys? X
It is really easy just to go to a chemist and get it there. All chemists will have Zovirax or similar
im going through my first out break and somthing that has helped me pretty much heal up without scabs in putting yoghurt on the blisters, it works amazing and soothes quickly
I've looked into Zovirax but it sas not to be used on the genitals?? So I've never used it. I'm assuming otherwise natural yogurt can be used?
i used natural bio yogurt , it really helps x
Thank you, any other tips? Xx
the yogurt was all i really needed, people say wear loose clothing but this irritated and hurt my blisters, so i wore cotton pants that arent going to ride up at all helps, and if you have to be up and about, tight jeans so they don't move helped me . If your lucky enough to not have to be up and about , pj's on, loads of yogurt and a wee film xx
Thank you Fiona, this horrible thing makes you feel as though you're on your own. Is there a chat room on here?
it really does. glad i decided to join this site , im not actually sure , i only joined yesturday xxx
Lidocaine 5% ointment from the chemist (say it is for shingles if you are asked 'what for?' is brilliant at numbing the pain. You do not ned a prescription in the UK, though I think the Americans do. A small trial reported in Lancet (professional medical journal) found that it aborted about half the outbreaks when used early on and shortened the others from an average of 5 days to an averge of 2 days. Also I use a German cream with lemon balm mint in it (melissa officinalis is the botanical name for it) which UK people can buy at herpes. org. uk/shop.html . I have been counting and I reckon it has stopped the last 12 outbreaks. (Well some of them might not have come out anyway, but something stopped 12 outbreaks!) You can just get the melissa extract or oil and use that if you wish. P.S. Lidocaine is great on minor burns and mosquito bites too!
Dynamiclear, just google it. it's a topical gel, only takes on application and it'll dry up your sore within 24 hours. It's really fasy and effective. I've been infected for about 12 years, I eat lots of garlic and ginger rich food when I feel an outbreak coming on, that usually stops it happening. There is a light therapy thing you can get from boots, I can't remember what it's called. You treat the area for three minutes with the light, it usually stops the outbreak occurring.
Remeber not to touch the sore, you can infect your fongers and spread the infection to your lips and eyes so wash your hands thoroughly. Also try to keep the sore dry as that will help it heal faster. Give Dynamiclear a go, it works well. I'm still looking for a cure, one day soon
