Back to the doctor next week after being on colofac 200mg twice a day for a month. It's certainly made my stools firmer but hasn't really improved my IBS-D. It's an antispasmodic which is mainly for pain isn't it? I don't get any pain, just the D. Are there any other drugs that will help me?
Have you tried imodium? I use this regularly to help when I'm having days with bad diarrhea. My doctor also prescribed me codeine phosphate as well to help with diarrhea. Does seem to work, but I feel the imodium is best, as I'm not quite sure how many of the codeine''s to take to make sure that the diarrhea is kept at bay.
Hope that helps :-)
I do take Imodium but not sure if that's ok to take on a daily basis, I was wondering if there was anything I could try that stops it without taking Imodium if that makes sense
Dorset 87 , Id not take anything every day ,but cut out Sugars of any kind . Foods stuff does it for me ( allergies here ) . It has gone on to give me cystitis . I drink lots of water to keep both Bowel and Gyne area as happy as I can . No mean feat daily battle . How long have you had it , have you tried the Fopmap foods ? Miserable condition agree . ( Im here in Dorset ) . Hope your day is better .
Try imodium for short term use. I usually have IBS C but occasionally I have IBS D which I had two weeks ago for three days. I took imodium for one day and that stopped it. However, now I am back to IBS C and incomplete evacuation. At least I am getting one normal small bowel movement a day now.
I had IBS D two weeks ago for three days. Nurofen with codeine helped to slow it down a bit after a dosage of four spread out over a few hours. However, it didn't stop the diarrhoea completely so I took Imodium for one day and that cleared it up.
Imodium or coedine is the only thing to stop it for me. Some people find fybogel or other fibre drinks help.
Hello Marlene, yep tried everything and just had a colononsopy in Poole to rule everything else out.
Really just want to find something that controls it to a more manageable level. The colofac doesn't seem to work. How much water do you drink a day and is that making a difference then?
Hi I drink upto 5 / 50mls a water from the time I get up ,onwards . No juice just pure Mineral water . It does slow things down . Plus I watch what I eat . Have a lok at Oxalates , see if there's anything on those foods that's cause , I did and foud several culprits tomatoes , onions etc wasent until I got told to check that out I found if I ignore certain ones I ate on a regular basis it was so ,so much better plus the daily water . Got nothing to loose go read up on OXALATES . May surprise you also .
Too much water can over soften stools. I rely solely on fruit to keep me regular. At the moment I am having an IBS flare up and fruit is going straight through me after recovering from a bout of diarrhoea.
