What do you get anxious about?

I have been on citalopram for 16 years but due to a separation I had my dose upped. It was like starting all over again. The symptoms worsened etc. Now I have anxiety attacks over EVERYTHING

Washing up, cooking dinner, why hasn't he text back? Are my children happy?. The meatballs in the fridge are out of date. What sets you off?

Hi Lisa what sets me off is thinking about my future, I have lots of fears about that, then I think how useless I am and it escalates for I’m there. I have been on cit for 7 weeks so far! And I have been having some good days but still a lot of anxiety!! Good to touch bases love and blessings gili

Thanks for replying

It's rubbish isn't it. I'm thinking about therapy but I can't really afford it so that sets me off too

Ha ha yes an injection of cash would really help!!!

Hi michelle is it livewire.com or which there are a lot of live wires. I have looked for free internet counseling but in the end there is always a fee!! Is it in UK??

what you have to remember is that every medication you take has side effects.Regarding your panic attacks that feel real to you,it is always when somethings happens that you suffer panic attacks.I used to be on this medication for many years and also suffered panic attacks and what i did was get a  small plastic bag and breath in and out of it and my panic attacks slowed down.

Hi, I'm on week 4 and getting so much better, my anxiety now only comes on when I'm in crowded places, cinema, packed bus etc, I don't bother going cinema so much now but if I do I always book the end seat,, being on a packed bus I can't get out off as after work it's rush hour etc, but I help myself by grounding, putting my feet flat on the floor, deep belly breathing and normally put my headphones in while telling myself nothing bad is going to happen. I've always needed my personal space

So happy to hear that you are feeling so much better I am on week 7 but still have the anxiety, less but still present. I am hoping it will improve every soon like tomorrow!!

Hi Lisa,

Sorry to hear your suffering, these anxiety symptoms are horrible and I completely relate. My anxiety seems to be at worst when I'm confined to somewhere I can't exit e.g. a restaurant, the cinema, on a plane, on holiday abroad, therefore, I have an irrational fear of not being able to escape a situation, even though I could just get up and leave (perhaps not a place!). I'm also caught in the "anxious about being anxious" cycle which is a thinking cycle that those with anxiety commonly exhibit, apparently.  However, I do not have agoraphobia so I've no issue with being outdoors, so to speak.

I'm learning the Claire Weekes's technique after finding it on the forum here - in the last 25 years it is 'by far' the closest explanation I have found that so vividly describes my anxiety/fear/symptoms. I am so convinced by her explanation that I feel it could be a turning point for me in time and also a way to come off Citalopram (I've been on/off 20mg for 6 years).

Perhaps have a look at Claire Weekes audio material - it sounds old fashioned, but the advice is priceless and no other modern theories or practice have been so convincing, in my opinion.

Hope you find some peace and be assured you're not alone!
