What do you personally do to get by with your Genralized Anxiety Disorder?

Hi everyone, I hope everybody who is suffering from their anxieties get some relief on this Monday as today can be stressful for all of us! I’d love to know what everyone does out there, on a daily basis that helps them cope with their anxiety and depression. Do you bike? Swim? Jog? Talk therapy? I’d love to know! This will help me better understand the full spectrum of preferred personal remedies by actual people who actually suffer. Hope to hear from you all! smile

Talking is probably the biggest help for me, once I started seeing a therapist and talking to others on forums like this, my anxiety levels changed dramatically (in a good way).

I also do a body scan meditation b4 bed sometimes that helps me sleep better, and I learned a particular deep breathing exercise that works really well, it slows my heart rate and calms me when I get really nervous.

Hi Philly89, I’m so glad you displayed the courage to openly share with us your personal techniques on tackling anxiety and keeping calm. I find talking is what a lot of individuals find very useful and effective in coping with their day to day symptoms, sounds like your therapist has you on the right track! Keep up the meditation and talk therapy along with a proper diet and you sound like you’re doing better than most! Thanks for sharing!! Happy Monday!

Exercise, meditation, and having positive thoughts! Took me a while to get motivated to do it but works for ne! Also focused breathing is a great help. Have a great day!

Great hearing from you Celi9050, I love that for you a positively structured mindset along with exercise and proper diet is how you go about battling anxiety. Getting motivated to put yourself in that mental state is much easier said than done but I’m glad your applying actual methods to combat mental illness. You sound like you’re on a good road, I like hearing about sufferers who have actively found a productive remedy for themselves. Stay strong, stay motivated and keep up the breathing and exercise techniques. Don’t forget to properly hydrate everyday as well, awesome share, Happy Monday!

Kefak Umar, I’m from America but my father is Lebanese. I’m a twenty-one year old Lebanese American currently enrolled in FAU’s medical program in Boca Raton FL. I’ve been suffering with anxiety from birth and has been one of my key drivers of my love of medicine. When I was born I had separation anxiety from my mother and I would shake when ever she put me down, so for a year she had to keep me in a baby pouch with me attached to her chest. As I went through my child hood with Generalized Anxiety Disorder it really messed with my digestive system heavily. Poor bowel movements, stomach cramps, sweating, fatigue etc. this would usually go on throughout the school day and acted up especially after school lunch! It crippled me greatly in my early adult hood as my sexual life suffered the inevitable consequences of anxiety and social anxiety that accompanies it. Making relationships with females was hard, I had no friends, and didn’t like to associate with too many things I wasn’t already comfortable with. Than my father passed away from Stage IV Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer that took his life. Since then, I told myself I would never have anxiety or panic again, and after 20 years, my father would be so proud as I am panic and anxiety free! I’m here to help others now through their struggle with anxiety, depression, ocd and panic. I’ve been through it all, every step of the way! Every headache, every heart palpitation, every nausea and throwing up fit for no reason other than me having a panic attack. It’s horrendous and life crippling but you can put it in your head to beat it and to forget about it. I now find fulfillment in helping others, just like I did when I was able to help my dad make the transition to the other side. God bless, that’s my story and I’m proud to tell it and one day you’ll be proud to tell yours too Umar, always here to talk! Inshallah and Happy Monday!

Hey hun, good question! Exercise helps. I've started brisk walking and I can honestly say it lifts my mood. Overall, I'd say my anxiety has reduced. I still get anxious now and again but it's nowhere near as bad or intense. Donna xxx

Hi Donna, Thank you for sharing on my discussion! Walking is always a great way to burn off energy without totally exerting your cardiovascular which can sometimes mimic anxiety symptoms and can make the condition worse, so a brisk walk is clearly doing well! When do you prefer to walk? Early mornings? Evenings? When do you find the most clarity when you’re walking? Don’t let anyone stop you from continuing your “strides” forward (pun intended). Glad to hear your method works for you, I’ve noticed exercise and talk therapy to be so far the most effective for a larger number of people! Stay strong, happy and healthy and remember to consume lots of H20!! Happy Monday!

Please tell us how you are anxiety a depression free. 😊

Hey hun, thanks for your reply. I generally walk in the morning around 9.30ish. I only walk for an hour most days as the moment as I am rebuilding my fitness level. Which isn't much cop at the moment. I love walking and listening to music. You ask some really good questions! I feel the most clarity when I get back from my walk. I feel a sense of calm, is the only way I can describe it. You're right, talking helps. The government have cut all the counselling services in my area so I have to talk to friends and family. Who is there for you honey?

Hi Donna, hope you’re having a great Tuesday, mine has been going very well! So I see you also incorporate music into your walking, music has great effects on the brain, especially when coping with anxiety. It’s good to hear that you’re starting slow and gradually working your way up, best way to do it! I have my mother and my nephew, they’re the best support system I could ask for! They’re the ones I talk to and share my life with, wouldn’t want it any other way! Happy Tuesday, and thanks for the reply!
