I have now seen a proper specialist for first time. She advises two week break from clob while we zap a yeast/fungal infection with an oral treatment called itraconazole. [And then 6 weeks of daily clob.] I didn't ask her whether it was ok to still use coconut oil or similar and have this slight worry that it might somehow feed the infection!?!? But don't want to forego the comfort unnecessarily. Anyone have experience here? I'd be really grateful for a steer. Best wishes to all.
hello...hummmmm, my only thought would be for you to call the specialist's office first thing Mon. morn and ask about the coconut oil. Coconut oil seems to mildly sting my bottom, even thought I cook with coconut oil, I do "oil pulling" every single morning, and I use coconut oil as facial cleanser and then moisturizer...so I love coconut oil and use it. However, on my bottom, it's another story. On my bottom I use emu oil and if I have any itching or pain, I switch to emuaid briefly.
I am sure others here will have some good thoughts for you, too. Oh, I almost forgot, I use the steroid (not Clob., but Triamcinolone) twice a week approximately. I am 70, was diagnosed with biopsy about 2 yrs ago, even tho I know I have had LS for many years, just didn't know.
Well all I can say jo, is coconut oil is anti-bacterial and anti-FUNGAL so I can't think it could be a problem.
dear moderator: am I being blocked for any comment I may make? Please tell me and I will stop replying to this forum. (which would make me very sad indeed)
Hallo patricia...It is a puzzle...I've had a few posts blocked and on hold for the moderator to pass.
They have been passed many hours later.
There must be certain words, names or phrases that are programed to automatically block.
I think at some point a moderator examines the content to see if it is permissable.
Even after the moderator passed the posts ,I hadn't a clue what the offence was.
They seemed perfectly innocent comments to me. Strange isn't it !!
yep. You are exactly correct. When something I have had blocked appears hours later, it is exactly as I wrote it..nothing has been blacked out or anything, and it is always some information that has been posted before! Oh well. I merely said that sometimes coconut oil irritates my bottom area, even tho I use coconut oil for many other things...and I use emu oil 90% of the time, and emuaid the rest of the time. I do hope you find something to help with your pain and burning............
As far as I know - coconut oil is anti fungal and anti bacterial. If anything, it supports you.
Ring and ask. Better to be sure. They usually do not mind a question over the phone. You may not speak to the socialist directly but the information can be passed along.
Correction ... Specialist not socialist....stupid auto correct!
I think he may be on vacation.
Thank you everyone - I will e-mail the doc to double check but in the meantime you have reassured me and I will continue to use coconut oil. Thanks to all. Every best wish.
I just want to say something about Clobetosol (SP?). My specialist has told me that continued use of it without stopping can thin the very sensitive skin so much that tears can occur. Maybe tears (from your eyes too). He recommends a step down approach. Clob first to get the LS under control and then two other creams to then be on maintenance with a hydrocortisone (very mild) solution for life, I guess. Clob is the first step but shouldn't be used forever. If your doc only has that one treatment, get another opinion!
I think the plan is clob for six weeks and then make a treatment plan. The Dr. G webinar on this forum is about using clob twice a week for ever and it seems that specialists hold different views. Until I get the first six weeks under my belt (!!!) I'm not sure what mine is going to recommend but I will certainly ask all the questions. Thanks for writing.
Can someone give me some advise on what kind of coconut oil to use? There are several different kind organic, natural etc.
