What is a Posterior Capsule Rupture?

I got silicone oil in my eye and will be having cataract surgery. I got a 10% chance of having a Posterior Capsule Rupture. What is is? How will my vision be if I get it? Google has no answers!

This is a question to ask your Consultant when you see him/her

Good luck

When you say you got silicone in your eye, was this some kind of accident? Or have you had other eye issues like retinal detachment and silicone was intentionally used in the repair procedure?

If you google the following phrase you should generate lots of hits for articles on the issue. From what I read, the main consideration is that the surgeon needs to be prepared for this complication during surgery and knows what to do if it happens. It would seem that having the surgery done by someone that is highly skilled and dealt with the complication (successfully!) before would be the best you could hope for.

Posterior Capsular Rupture During Cataract Surgery

From a retinal detachment and they intentionally filled the eye with silicone oil.

(I don’t recommend it. It gives you a blurry world and interacts with eye drops, ie generates a cataract.)
