what is causing my back to ache between the sholder blades, a stabing pain

have been diagnosed with L.P.R. (silent reflux effecting the vocal cords.

Jeannine, it's the acid in your oesophagus (gullet) that's causing the pain. Stomach and oesophageal pain is often felt in the back. I hope you can get some help with the acid reflux.

Hi Jeannine

I experienced exactly that feeling a few months ago following a bit of unusual exercise. It got worse very quickly so after a few days I went to see the doc who suggsted it was "muscular" and would eventiually fix itself. I returned three weeks later no better but £80 worse off spent on a reccomended chiropractor so was sent for Xray. Result is that I have arthritis in the spine, not an uncommon situation among the "more mature". Now that I know what it is I can live with it. If its too painful I take a couple of paracetomol but quite often I forget I have it. At first I was frightened to lift anything for fear of the pain but now have learned to live with it. If you find a "cure" please let me know.

By coincidence, I have suffered from heartburn (acid reflux) for years till I went for an upper endoscopy some months ago. This revealed a hiatus hernia, again a common complaint. I was prescribed Lanzaprozole which has totally cured the heartburn. A sad side effect is that I now get immediate hiccups if I drink anything stronger than beer. Good red wine and brandy will be sadly missed. I tried stopping the Lanzaprozole for a couple of weeks but I still got hiccups!
