What is going on???

Hi, I am 50 years old and iv'e posted here several times now, and its always been reassuring... but yet again something appears. However, this time after intercourse i noticed small spots of blood on my underwear... which i know isn't 'normal'. Having had regular preriods all my life, the last 14 months have been hard with erratic late/ early periods and sometimes super heavy. My moods have also been super erratic. Also spotting between periods. I suffered with PND since my last child 10 years ago and have been on citalopram ever since. My last pap was a year ago and i have had several internal ultra scans to reassure my re the spotting, all clear... should i get another pap test? My GP did attempt to do an internal examination at my may pap, but i started to feel faint and sick... so he stopped.. I eat well, don't smoke and exercise... BUT i have a glass of wine EVERY day.... should I stop that? I feel my mind isn't my own some days... any advice would be greatly appreciated. Alice xx

I do know alcohol thins your blood . Im not thinking that’s it though. It might be irritation from an infection women can get like an overgrowth of bacteria or yeast. You might not have noticed if you had one of these unless it was pretty bad . Usually you don’t bleed with those but if irritated in the hidden area, intercourse could possibly cause this in my mind. Or it could be just hormonal things that cause changes in the lining of the vagina .Like thinning causing you to get the blood after intercourse. I would call the nurse at my drs office and tell them what you said in your question here. They could tell you what they think .I think if you could get through your exam they could really be able to tell so much more and bit would ease your mind . I hope you can. Maybe if you breath in through your nose slowly and exhale slowly out of your mouth making your stomach rise (not chest) that would help, if it is causing you to be tense/ nervous. But practice doing it before You go so You will be comfortable doing it . You could Listen to relaxing music during your exam with ear buds through a phone , read part of a good book or try chewing gum you like. Just trying to think of suggestions to help . I would eat some yogurt for a few days with natural cultures. It might help. Id call my doc and not worry. Best of luck, my guess it’s probably nothing and if something not much of anything

Hi Alice,
Have another pap to put your mind at rest but it could be that you have vaginal atrophy that happens during peri/menopause.
The vaginal tissues thin and micro tears can occur during intercourse.
Use lubricant and perhaps discuss with your Doctor an oestrogen cream or pessary.
