I'm needing a few opinions if possible.
My boyfriend of 10 years who is in his late 20's has recently told me he's constantly battling in his head.
He is a funny, happy, and popular man from the outside.
He's told me he obsesses over things that he knows don't matter - for example he deleted a console game, that was worth nothing because he knew he wouldn't play it again - and he spent days back and forth wondering if he'd made the right decision.
He says he feels as if he can't enjoy life because his mind is racing about things he knows are irrational.
Conversations he's had, lack of confidence, how he can't remember how he was in himself years ago, how he feels he's different now and feels bad about himself.
He told me he feels something isn't right and he feels like he is going insane.
I've noticed every evening he sets his alarm for in the morning and has a ritual of words he says to check it's set (OCD?)
This is more of a recent thing, the last 2 years of his life.
Could anybody help me understand what this could be? I'm not looking for a diagnosis but opinions and guidance would be helpful.
I knew he over though situations but I didn't know this was a constant battle and I am worried.
Thank you for any help
Hi
What you describe is how I am. I fixate and obsess over almost everything and have those OCD tendencies.
I suffer from anxiety.
Has he seen a doctor about his issues? It would be a good idea to do so. There are many different medications and or therapies available.
Hope he can get the help he needs.
🙂
Thank you Tammy!
I understand most people have a tendency to over think but when someone says they feel like they can't enjoy life because of it then I feel that's when help is needed.
I will get him booked in.
May I ask what you do that helps you stay in control of the way you feel?
Thank you
There is such a thing as anxiety with OCD. It might be helpful for him to see a psychiatrist considering his behaviors and racing thoughts. Is he having a feeling of impending doom? After being like this for 2 years probably his coping abilty has gone downhill and he needs to see someone about it. Racing thoughts and repetitive behavior does sound like OCD but he must see a psychiatrist for a diagnosis. Racing thoughts could be a symptom of anxiety also. I have them. Hope he sees someone soon.
Hi
If I’m honest - I have been really struggling at the moment a lot and trying to get back to some sort of normality. The past 8 months have been very tough with my anxiety.
I have had CBT and Mindfullness, both are very helpful usually in managing it.
Find out what his triggers are thiughas this is what caught me out and still is atm.
Hope this helps.
