I have posted a while ago so just giving an update and hoping someone might know what the heck it is. Developed food allergies, in particular fruit and sugar, suspect fructose malabsorption/ food absorption linked to the small intestine. Can't overdo carbs as my breathing is affected so consequently have lost a lot of weight. Permanent diarrhea. One odd thing is that when I go to the toilet and I'm pushing(sorry!) on the left hand side of my stomach I can hear liquid sloshing. Bizarre! When I eat the wrong thing I get a burning sensation both in the stomach and back, it feels as though I am on fire all over. The normal sensation is a plank of wood tied to both stomach and back. When I lie down it goes unless I have a very bad reaction. Have had blood tests, nothing coming up which makes me wonder if it's physical as I had a heavy fall onto my chest. Here's hoping. Lea
Hi, I would suggest seeing if you have this:Hereditary fructose intolerance.
Does anyone else in your family have this as well, even if they don’t you may want to see an genetic doc and get the test to see.
Fructose malabsorption can be due to many causes that include:
imbalance of good and bad bacteria in the gut
high intake of refined and processed foods
preexisting gut issues such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
inflammation
stress
try using Culturelle and see if it helps, it is a probiotic, but ask your doc if it is ok first.
Have you had an endoscope or a colonoscopy to check for inflammation in the gut. It may be able to be detected by inflammatory markers in the blood as well, ask your doc.
Did you have a celiac disease test done?
Was this diagnosed by a doctor using the breath test?
While fructose malabsorption may improve with a reduced fructose diet, this condition may also suggest that small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) is at play. In either case, antibiotics, probiotics, digestive enzymes like xylose isomerase, and a modified diet may be recommended.
A FODMAP diet may also be helpful when trying to manage fructose digestion issues. FODMAP stands for fermentable oligo-, di-, monosaccharides and polyols. FODMAPs include fructose, fructans, galactans, lactose, and polyols. In some cases, those with fructose malabsorption may also not tolerate fructans found in wheat, artichokes, asparagus, and onions. A dietitian can help you with your diet.
I also recommend speaking with your gastro to do other testing to see if there may be something else going on as well. There are alot of tests that can be done. Good Luck !!!
